It's become very clear to me no one knows how their food is made. They don't even know what ground hamburger is made out of. They don't just grind up meat. They grind up leftover meat and its been that way forever.
I like how whether or not China has "real communism" depends on whatever suits a leftist's argument at the moment.
It's communist when you're talking about electronics manufacturing (please ignore the sweatshops), but not when you're talking about Uyghur genocide.
Yeah has anyone ever actually read his poetry? Has it left a mark on the world? Or was his contribution being both black and an academic at the same time.
Here’s his poetry:
“Be nice to yu turkeys dis christmas
Cos' turkeys just wanna hav fun
Turkeys are cool, turkeys are wicked
An every turkey has a Mum.
Be nice to yu turkeys dis christmas,
Don't eat it, keep it alive,
It could be yu mate, an not on your plate
Say, Yo! Turkey I'm on your side.
I got lots of friends who are turkeys
An all of dem fear christmas time,
Dey wanna enjoy it, dey say humans destroyed it
An humans are out of dere mind,
Yeah, I got lots of friends who are turkeys
Dey all hav a right to a life,
Not to be caged up an genetically made up
By any farmer an his wife.
Turkeys just wanna play reggae
Turkeys just wanna hip-hop
Can yu imagine a nice young turkey saying,
ÒI cannot wait for de chopÓ,
Turkeys like getting presents, dey wanna watch christmas TV,
Turkeys hav brains an turkeys feel pain
In many ways like yu an me.
I once knew a turkey called........ Turkey
He said "Benji explain to me please,
Who put de turkey in christmas
An what happens to christmas trees?",
I said "I am not too sure turkey
But itÕs nothing to do wid Christ Mass
Humans get greedy an waste more dan need be
An business men mek loadsa cash'.
Be nice to yu turkey dis christmas
Invite dem indoors fe sum greens
Let dem eat cake an let dem partake
In a plate of organic grown beans,
Be nice to yu turkey dis christmas
An spare dem de cut of de knife,
Join Turkeys United an dey'll be delighted
An yu will mek new friends 'FOR LIFE'.”
This seems like a very high level left / right divide: the left is more likely to distrust their own personal experience, or to insist it's not representative
This is a photo where a sitting president used the national guard and Army to desegregate schools but they aren't allowed to secure the border... That would be unconstitutional.
They can point guns at American kids, they can force them into social situations they don't want to be in by God help them if they're used to secure the border from foreign invaders.
Two becoming one, except it’s really important I maintain my separate identity. In fact that’s even more important than the joining ceremony. I will have a stronger emotional reaction to the failure to address my separate identity than to the beginning of our union.
I am not, in fact, divorced, but let's say that I were. Isn't that, like, totally fine in their worldview? Doesn't it not matter? Aren't you supposed to be finding your truth or whatever? Isn't it totally permissible to move on if you get bored?
You get the sense that...maybe...they don't really believe it. Maybe they know that divorce is bad and wrong.
Notice something strange about the Roman horse: its back is on a level with the man's stomach. A modern horse's back is somewhere closer to shoulder-height (and modern people are taller too!).
Hubris is in many ways the defining feature of modernity. Really, who do you people think you are? Who do you think you are that you can insert yourself between parents and their children? Who do you think you are that you know something about the correct way to live? What their interests are? That you think you know what defines the good life?
Who in the world do you think you are?
**Traditional Engine Order Telegraphs:**
The bridge unit and the engine-room unit are connected by two chains (or wire cables) that run through conduits over sprockets, forming a continuous loop. When the bridge officer moves the handle, it turns a sprocket that pulls the chain, which in turn turns the corresponding sprocket and pointer in the engine room. This classic system does not require electricity; it relies on a direct physical linkage, ensuring that both dials always mirror each other.
Here’s a typical sequence of operations: The bridge officer grabs the handle and swings it to the command position, for example, "Half Ahead." This movement not only moves the engine-room pointer but also rings a bell or gong to alert the engineers. The engineers then adjust their own handle to match the position indicated by the bridge officer; this movement serves as an acknowledgment and rings the bell back on the bridge, confirming that the order has been received and understood. Only after this acknowledgment do the engineers work the throttle and reversing gear to carry out the order.
It is common practice to first execute a full sweep of the handle, moving it all the way to one extreme and back before settling on the actual command position. This exaggerated motion serves two purposes: it rings the gong loudly and unmistakably, ensuring everyone is aware that a new order is coming, and it checks that the mechanism and chains are not stuck or slack. On some ships, this full sweep also signifies an important or urgent change (such as switching from ahead to astern), emphasizing to the crew that they need to pay attention because the situation is critical. After completing this sweep, the handle is adjusted to the desired position.

Shaquille O'Neal reveals he invested in Ring after a security company tried to charge him $80,000 for home cameras
"I called a security company, 'Hey, this is Shaq. Need some cameras.' And of course, they knew it was me. They tried to charge me $80,000. So, I'm not paying $80,000 for no cameras."
"I went to Best Buy, saw the little Ring cameras. So, when I went to CES in Vegas, I met the CEO, guy by the name of Jamie. I said, 'I would like to invest. I would like to be a partner.'"
"And it just got acquired for a lot of money."
