The Petroleum and Natural Gas Rules 2025 which have recently been notified will introduce a paradigm shift in India’s quest to strengthen and boost domestic production of hydrocarbons, and provide momentum to efforts towards achieving India’s energy security under the leadership of PM Sh @narendramodi Ji.

This article takes the example of Ashok Nagar in West Bengal to lucidly explain the positive impact of the Oilfields (Regulation & Development) Amendment Act 2025 and shows how it has paved the way for a better energy future.

✅ The new rules remove all ambiguity around what counts as the “value of the lease”.

✅ They put a time limit on approvals. Any application for a petroleum lease now has to be decided within 180 days.

✅ Instead of forcing companies to juggle multiple licences at different stages, a single petroleum lease now covers exploration, development, production, and even related activities like renewable energy projects.

One of India’s leading energy Maharatnas and the highest valued CPSE in terms of market cap (₹3.27 lakh crore), @ONGC_ is at the forefront of India’s ambitious journey towards energy security under the visionary leadership of PM Sh @narendramodi Ji.

With a 5.2% growth in sales in Q2 2025-26 (vis-a-vis Q2 2024-25) and 1.2% growth in crude production in the same period, consolidated Q2 profit of ₹1,26,25 crore is up 28.2% due to performance by group company HPCL.

Share of New Well Gas is 21% of Total Gas revenue from nomination fields in H1, while Mumbai High field with BP TSP has shown 1% Oil growth and 8% Gas growth are reflections of the turnaround underway.
