Minna: Death of over 30 Youth In Detention Must Be Investigated
The Nigerian authorities must immediately set up an independent investigation of today’s death of over 30 youth — including minors — in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna Niger state. The victims were arrested on September 15 and 16, 2026 at mining sites located at M.I. Wushishi/Lukoto axis of Minna. This loss of lives cannot go unanswered.
Government must promptly, thoroughly, independently, impartially, transparently, and effectively, investigate how detention for one to two days descended into a disaster that killed minors. Those who are found to be behind this tragedy must not merely receive internal or administrative sanctions. They must face the full scale of justice.
The circumstances of the arrests of the victims and the condition in which they were detained must be established transparently. Victims and their families must be provided with access to justice and effective remedies.
The authorities must ensure justice for the victims of this horrific yet preventable incident which cost so many people, many believed to be children, their lives.

No Objection to Legitimate Scrutiny of My Certificates
My attention has been drawn to reports circulating on social media concerning a legal action by an individual or group seeking Certified True Copies (CTCs) of my Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, awarded to me in 1984 by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), as well as other academic records and credentials relating to my admission into the University.
I wish to state clearly that I have absolutely no objection to the release of these records.
I respectfully request that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, within the limits permitted by law, make available, upon legitimate request, my academic certificates, records, and other official documents relating to my admission and studies at the University. I equally have no objection to other educational institutions, within and outside Nigeria, which I attended, making my academic records available in accordance with applicable laws and procedures.
I believe strongly in transparency and accountability, particularly for those who seek the privilege of public office. Public scrutiny must, however, be fair, lawful, and applied consistently to everyone who seeks to lead our nation.
As a presidential candidate seeking the trust of Nigerians to lead our country, I welcome legitimate public interest in my background, qualifications, and record. I am prepared to subject myself to the level of scrutiny that should reasonably be expected of anyone seeking the highest office in our country. Those who seek to lead must be willing to demonstrate, through both their words and actions, that they have nothing to conceal from the people they aspire to serve.
In that same spirit, I encourage every presidential candidate to make their educational qualifications and relevant records available for legitimate public scrutiny. Doing so should not be regarded as an inconvenience or an attack. Rather, it is an opportunity to strengthen public confidence, promote accountability, and rebuild the trust of Nigerians in those who seek to govern them.
Leadership must reflect the values we expect from the society we hope to build. If we desire a Nigeria founded on transparency, integrity, accountability, and respect for institutions, those values must begin with those who seek to lead it.
I therefore welcome the scrutiny of my academic background and remain committed to the principle that those who ask Nigerians for their trust must also be willing to earn that trust through openness and accountability.
A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO
@diaryofa9jagirl@danglifestyle_ In the light of a heinous crime against defenseless children, framing the narrative in this way - with intentional omissions and misconstruing of actual facts is nothing short of SHAMEFUL. Where is our conscience? What about the real victims? Wow!
Shame on you @thecableng
Shouldn’t a top-rated institution for journalism focus on the issues? What has his background got to do with anything and how does that affect the matter at hand and the millions of Nigerians affected? Be ashamed!
MAN IN THE NEWS: Von Batten, the Nigerian-born @atiku lobbyist whose background is under scrutiny
When, in April 2026, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar hired Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C., a Washington-based lobbying firm, to protect and strengthen his “reputational standing” in the United States, more attention was paid to the deal’s worth than to the contract’s signee.
A Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) filing with the US Department of Justice showed that the contract amounted to $1,200,000 annually, eliciting varied reactions from Nigerians, and criticism, mainly from loyalists of Atiku’s 2027 opponent, President Bola Tinubu, candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In the United States, if you destroy a Bald Eagle egg:
$100k fine.
1 year in prison.
Because an unborn Eagle.
Is still an Eagle.
I wonder how else this applies.
@sowore@UBAGroup@TonyOElumelu That speaks to your exposure and education in basic human relations and workings of society. In summary, she is wrong in this instance. However, more importantly, we all should learn a thing or two and not simply scapegoat her. Thank you.
@sowore@UBAGroup@TonyOElumelu ..or positions require certain additional levels of respect - not just for the person but for the office/position they hold. You don’t refer to the head of state as A or B, you call them “Mr President” or “Madam President” as a show of respect for the position they occupy (cntd)
Today, I make this clear commitment: my running mate and I will take our message directly to Nigerians. We will listen to them, understand their concerns, and engage them openly. We will not delegate this duty to proxies. We will answer questions, defend our record and character, and present our plan to rebuild Nigeria. Any presidential candidate who lacks the resolve to travel across the country, meet the people, and respond to their questions lacks the capacity to govern it.
I commit to commencing the journey of resetting Nigeria by uniting it, securing it on the path of economic and inclusive growth, and moving our country from consumption to production.
A New Nigeria is possible.
God Almighty bless Nigeria. -PO
@NigeriaStories Nigerian media houses are a disgrace! When will you rise up to stand against all of these? How much clearer should it be? You’re the 5th estate for God’s sake! Yet, you run around at the whims of people like this to give them a platform! @ARISEtv@channelstv@NewsCentralTV
