Utterly predictably, Putin rejects the unconditional ceasefire offered by Ukraine, sends Trump off on the errands of making the Russian invasion easier and denying Ukrainian sovereignty, while Trump claims he has accomplished something.

To those with short memories:

Between 2014 and 2022, Ukraine held about 200 rounds of talks with Russia.

During this period, 20 cease-fire agreements were reached, all of which were quickly violated by Russia.

None of the 200 rounds of talks or the 20 ceasefires have prevented Putin from launching a brutal all-out invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, 2022.

Those who argue that Ukraine should negotiate with Russia now are either uninformed or misled, or they side with Russia and want Putin to take a pause before an even larger aggression.

We should not and will not fall into this trap.

Trump's list of concessions to Putin includes: (1) Ukraine cannot join NATO; (2) Ukraine must give up territory to Russia; (3) no new military aid for Ukraine (3) U.S. forces will not participate in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine; (4) cutting USAID assistance for Ukraine and for Russian civil society and independent media operating in exile; (5) restoring diplomatic relations with Moscow (6) voting with Russia, Belarus, North Korea, and a handful of other rogue autocracies at the UN on a resolution condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and (7) hinting that sanctions could be lifted. And yet, Putin still won't sign the ceasefire. He wants more concessions. Maybe it's time for a tougher diplomatic strategy, President Trump.
