I’ve spent a whole week searching for a flat to rent or even the barest shelter for my family and me, but it’s been hopeless. Decent housing is very scarce—let alone anything remotely livable, and whatever’s left is priced far beyond what I can afford. The thought of taking down my tent only to pitch it again over the rubble of our ruined home is suffocating. Even if it meant going back to the only place that might grant my soul a sliver of peace, I just couldn’t do it.

But going back isn’t an option. Our area, east of Beit Hanoun, sits close to the occupation’s border, where the occupation continues to open fire daily and carry out military operations. How could I possibly return after 500 days of relentless death?

Even if I somehow brushed aside the danger, life there is damn near impossible. Water is very scarce, and the air is thick with dust, gunpowder, and the stench of war—clogging the lungs and making life that much more unbearable.

And yet, my soul remains drained from living in a tent in the south, miles from my city, miles from my people…

hi everyone! i have bad news from the refugee camp ahmed helps support. heavy rains hit the camp and many of the canvas tents were completely drenched and destroyed. a lot of families are now without shelter in the winter rains.
