3A Player to Watch: Jack Vilela of Columbus (6’2 200 3B/RHP) has been on our radar since a breakout sophomore season when he earned SIK all State pitching honors. Last year Viela repeated his All-State selection as a junior and is expecting another big senior year. In 2024 Viela batted an impressive .517 on the year with a .631 OBP. Viela was all a standout QB for Columbus this fall and was a SIK All State HM pick. When asked about the upcoming season he said, “I have a really good feeling about this team and the work we’re putting in!!” #sportsinkansas

Tri-State Building Southeast Kansas Performance of the Week after week six: Jack Vilela, a senior quarterback of Columbus High School, has had a huge year in guiding the 3A Titans to a 5-1 record. Last season, CUHS finished 2-7. Vilela passed for four touchdowns in week six in the 36-0 win over Riverton as he completed 10 of 15 passes. For the season, he has completed 69% of his passes for 1,019 yards with 16 TD to just one INT. Jace Midgett has been his top target offensively as Midgett doubles as one of the best two-way players in 3A. Vilela's breakout season is a big reason for the Titan improvement. He is also a two time 3A all state selection from SIK in baseball with a season remaining. Huge matchup this week with unbeaten Frontenac. #sportsinkansas photo: Carolyn Eddington
