@ThomasTParker Cross sport events/partnerships are smart. Especially in this case with the strong following Indian cricket has. But just to flag, it’s not correct to say “there’s a massive Indian community in the immediate surrounds of Villa Park”. Pakistani and Bangladeshi for the most part.
@Alex_Berwick @DanMatthewsAV Agree with this! As Villa fans we can still give a balanced view on our players. Not hit his Villa form YET but also doesn’t help that the forward line and midfield offer minimal first or second line protection. More to come as a defensive unit hopefully.
@SwissRamble Interesting thread as always. Are these wage bills a like for like comparison? Seems inconceivable to me that our wage bill is 87% of United’s.
@Davidsani60@FabrizioRomano Our game is tomorrow (Friday) and it’s against Liverpool so Elliott is not eligible to play. But other than those important facts you are absolutely spot on.
@MattyVsTheWorld Agree the pathetic allocation is a real issue. But wasn’t hard to add a category in for long standing season ticket holders with 7 Europa games. Someone with hundreds and hundreds of games racked up should have been ahead of someone with potentially only 7.
Me and my Dad have had STs for 29 years and went to 7 Europa games - no luck in ballot. Same situation for a mate and his Dad. Another mate hasn’t been to a league game in 3 years but gets a ticket. Pot 3 criteria completely stinks - club has let down many loyal fans #avfc
@AVFCStatto Many think their team should have scored most their chances but not the opposition so their view of the game is warped. An xG issue - it won’t include the Torres cushioned header or where Evanilson takes a heavy touch. Still a useful tool but over a longer period to assess trends
@Bisqwit Yeah I was being very modest with the loan fee within the £10m as I’ve not seen a number banded around for that and hoped we wouldn’t be stupid enough to pay a big one. Either way, I can’t get my head around it. Happy to be proven wrong come end of the season…
Sancho will cost us around £10m this season. We could have signed someone for £25m on a 5 year deal and stuck them on £75k pw and that would be a smaller hit to this year’s P&L (granted that has ongoing costs for future years but also possible upside of a big future sale). #avfc
@1988Ryanwiliams We’re in profit so should some room to purchase and stay in profit. Although clearly we aren’t privy to the exact agreement with UEFA so who knows. But Sancho on huge wages doesn’t seem like a thought out plan to me. I’ll be happy to be proven wrong come end of the season.
@theavfcfaithful If we end up with Sancho, we can’t complain about PSR or SCR. Can’t see a scenario where that is not expensive and he’s done nothing for years to suggest he is at the level we need. Also does not want to play rw.
@alanme@EC_AVFC@Alex_Berwick I’m pro some rules for this. PSR limits could be increased with inflation. SCR could be updated to be less simplistic. There has to be ways to do it whilst allowing teams to grow to a point they can compete towards the top on a sustained basis, without jeopardising their futures.
@alanme@EC_AVFC@Alex_Berwick I’m a chartered accountant so yes I clearly know that. But why ignore key parts of the FS. I just explained we have saleable assets to cover losses. We’d likely drop down to say 12th. This whole “I care about you not going bust so please don’t spend more money” is so transparent.
@alanme@EC_AVFC@Alex_Berwick@blattercake You do realise we have basically zero debt!? If our owners decided to cut back or pull out, we’d be ok - a few sales and a strategy for mid-table would suffice (which seems to be exactly what the “big 6” want us to do). But thanks for your concern about our club, appreciate it.
@alanme@EC_AVFC@Alex_Berwick@blattercake Start ups are not a fair comparison. Lots will target markets which don’t yet exist. & vast majority won’t have ultra successful businessmen & financier’s in charge. We’ve have made some mistakes but general trend is v +ve. Arbitrary rules threaten to curb that business growth.
@alanme@EC_AVFC@Alex_Berwick@blattercake “Entry level business advice”…plenty of businesses (especially the size of premier league football clubs) will run a short term deficit for a period of time in search of greater market share or revenues in the medium or longer term. That is a very basic concept…
@MarkAFrost39@Alex_Berwick@Tetevonbix It doesn’t necessarily need removing - could have been tweaked or more nuanced. Or at least inflation considered if we’re talking solely about PSR thresholds & not also SCR. Some of the “big 6” have decent PSR headroom so it doesn’t really come into their budget thinking.
@alanme@EC_AVFC@Alex_Berwick@blattercake We’re not wanting to outspend the whole league like City and Chelsea did so your point is a weak one. We wouldn’t even spend as much as most the “big 6” each window. We just want to be able to spend enough each season to keep improving - not really a big ask.
@ParkLane251@JB_2024@WhatTheForkLads@alfklly Our means being what? Owners have the money and are willing to put in debt free. Short term thinking rules are stopping that. We had a plan to grow turnover, i.e. achieve sustainability for larger spending, which is now hampered by rules which inadvertently keep the status quo.
