Watching #Dorothy was such an emotional experience. I had tears rolling down almost the whole time. Mostly because it was so beautiful, sometimes because of how cruel we can be to each other, and also because of those tiny moments of true human kindness. The man sitting next to me kept looking at me while I was quietly crying. And when the scene came where Karthi and Subbu parted ways, he started crying too and wiped his tears. A mother and daughter next to me were crying as well, and the mother used a handkerchief to help wipe her daughter's tears.

Sitting there in the shared darkness of the theater, surrounded by strangers melting into the exact same grief and grace, I could not help wondering if this profound, collective awakening is the true magic we ask of cinema.

Isn't this what movies are supposed to do for us?
