@jeskeets You could say the same about basketball for sure. Speaking as a fan but not someone that has played in any real capacity, it’s hard for me tell when someone has say, travelled (unless blatantly obviously), carries or double dribbles

@jeskeets each skill in gymnastics is assigned a value. Judges are informed of what vault will be performed ahead of time, so they just need to recognize the deductions in the performance. The deductions are subtracted from the total value of the skill.

@jeskeets Forward/backward rotations are easy to tell because it’s easy to distinguish single and double flips, and triples are extremely rare. Lateral twisting (like in skateboarding) is somewhat harder to distinguish but after you see enough of it you can tell
