When the older man in front of him didn't have enough money to pay for his food, or his card wouldn't work or something, he started walking out with nothing. This broken system continues because the current Senate is run by custom and a single leader, ignores “We the People,” and rests on a 1937 precedent.
Inertia plays a powerful role, as the mindset of “We’ve always done it this way” has persisted for nearly 90 years and most people simply accept the current system without questioning it.
Party discipline further entrenches the problem, since senators fear retaliation, including lost committee assignments and blocked priorities—and few are willing to challenge their own leader

The Senate was designed so that every Senator has real power to represent their constituents through open debate and amendments

This principle is grounded in the Constitution and Senate Rule XIX. Under this framework, every Senator holds genuine influence, a simple majority can change precedent when necessary, and the entire system was created to protect “We the People.”

The 11th Circuit’s punishment?

A secret little wrist slap, a forced “apology,” and she gets to keep her lifetime appointment, fat salary, and black robe like nothing happened.
