These are not just old saddles gathering dust in a forgotten corner of history.
Look closer.
Each one once rested on the back of a living, breathing animal that never asked to be there. A horse that knew nothing of Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, or the frozen hell that was Stalingrad. A horse that simply followed, because that is what horses do. They trust. They serve. They endure.
Romanian cavalrymen rode these animals into one of the most savage battles ever fought by human hands. The temperatures dropped to minus 40. The ground turned to iron. Men wept and horses collapsed, and the war kept moving anyway.
More than 6 million horses served on the Eastern Front during World War II. They hauled artillery through blizzards. They carried the wounded across open ground under fire. They pressed forward across frozen steppes until their legs simply gave out beneath them.
And when they fell, nobody came.
No burial. No name. No record. They were left exactly where they dropped, swallowed by snow and silence.
This photograph feels like the cemetery they never received. Every worn saddle is a nameless tombstone for a soul that once ran free, once breathed clouds of steam into the winter air, once gave everything it had to a war it never understood.
We remember the generals. We remember the battles. We carve names into stone walls.
But the horses? They got nothing.
Until now. Remember them.

.@RickyGervais gives his views on bullfighting.
"When a matador gets gored to death, the headline is always "tragedy at bullfight." EVERY bullfight is a ... tragedy. It's animal torture."
Absolutely true Ricky!
Scotland's public nature authority, NatureScot, is spending thousands licensing the cruel Guga hunt, where baby Gannet chicks are killed for a local delicacy on the Isle of Lewis.

I’m so sick of every excuse under the sun being used as a reason to abuse, sexually assault or throw away women’s hard won equality rights. In the Uk women are fast becoming second class citizens whilst idiotic liberal self proclaimed progressive women clap along!

🚨Poachers Beware! We're using your own social media against you!
For too long, poachers in #Lebanon bragged about illegally shooting protected birds eagles, orioles etc on Facebook/Insta/TikTok..
We submitted 52 profiles & 9 men are already facing criminal proceedings & fines!
I just walked across the room, with my arm around my physio and wearing my AFOs, but without a frame or a stick, for the first time. It was a year ago next week when I lost the power to walk. I'm so excited about what may happen next! Thank you to all who subscribe to my Substack
Fantastic review for Alice @ViTheCleaner from our show at the Etcetera Theatre Camden on Dec 7th (tickets still available for Sundays 14th/21st 5pm - JUST £3 PER TICKET!!!)
"A lovely intimate venue, with a warm welcome from both the venue staff and Alice and Marek. I enjoyed the variety of spoken word and song and Alice had wonderful comic timing too which made for a fun afternoon. I felt...drawn in...by the simple power of the words spoken. Also I think some of the poems would have worked better as they are (so without the musical accompaniment) to allow the words to really speak for themselves without anything to take away from them. We left the venue with smiles though, and the audience participation parts were fun, and Alice did a brilliant job of connecting with the audience and making it feel very inclusive." @EtceteraTheatre https://t.co/TP5CvEwe9r
