This is perhaps going to be my last post on Adipurush, a saga that deeply disappointed me and left me lessons I will remember for a very long time.

I have, quite silently, heard, watched and read all sides of the argument - those who defended the movie and those who despised it.

I fall in the second category - not because I watched the movie but just by the little I saw on social media. No, don’t tell me I need to watch it before I make up my mind - what I saw was enough. It really was.

After the myriad factual inaccuracies, the spiteful depiction of our Gods and the pedestrian language attributed to them, we were told that those opposing the movie have an issue because Jai Shree Ram chants were being heard across movie theatres. A dishonest evaluation by the makers. We were told that this was an adaptation, not Ramayan, a lie - a uturn made to damage control. We were told we were “murkha” because recognised that the makers first said there was no deviation from Ramayan to saying this was not Ramayan.

There is so much to say about the inaccuracies like Prabhu Ram watching Maiya Sita being abducted, Meghnad looking like a tatted goon, Ravan looking like a spiked Mughal ruler, his rudraksh being broken, the ridiculous sexualisation etc. There is so much to say about the dishonesty and arrogance of the makers. There is so much to say about the dark hell hole that Swarna Lanka is shown as. There is so much to say about the makers blaming critics of being in love with Ravan (nobody has the right to misrepresent even epics’ Rakshasas). There is so much to say about the lack of Tej in Ram. The lack of Tripund on Ravan, the cheap dialogues.. so on and so forth.

But so many reviewers have done such a stunning job talking about this.

I want to address something else. What infuriates me now is how the Hindu sentiment got terribly manipulated. With the Hindu awakening, the makers first said they would make Ramayan and because of their reverence for Bhagwan Ram, so many decided to support them no matter what. They used their innocent bhakti to make money out of them while disrespecting their faith, the entire time, alluding to it as well. The makers thought just because they have a few chants of Jai Shree Ram, their shameless distortions would pass under the radar.

They thought they would please the Hindus with “Jai Shree Ram” and please the Left with their inconceivable insult and misrepresentation. They failed.

Those Hindus desperate to see Bollywood respect their faith and culture accepted the movie despite the insult. The constant allusion to their personal faith was a manipulation. They used their own supposed faith to earn money from the Hindus they insulted, and then rub box office numbers on their face to shut down criticism.

I have worked with, tried to speak for, heard and understood these very pious Hindus for a decade now. They will accept anyone with open arms, till those very people turn around and spit on their face. They have faced enough. They have been betrayed enough. Their innocent bhakti has been weaponised enough. By the Left, by the Islamists and by Bollywoodias. This was just another episode.

Adipurush makers manipulated them, earned their trust and hope, and then spat on their faces. It infuriates me. It makes me incredibly sad. And it makes me incontrovertibly, forever, hate them.

The makers have committed an unpardonable sin in my eyes. I only hope Prabhu Shri Ram is watching.

#Adipurush is even more HORRENDOUS than Twitter was telling me. It has ZERO soul. Literally none of the memes or jokes are justifying this FIASCO! It's so OFFENSIVE that if you are an atheist, even if temporarily, it will turn you into a believer just to get this banned for once. IT IS AN ABUSE ON RAMAYAN & HINDUISM.
