The fact that people think this is conservative propaganda after our characters are either: unhappy, broke, broken, in jail or dead. The glitter is gone, we're left with religion being used to cope and an empty statement said by a dead person.
love zendaya but the girl has never even drank alcohol why would she have a say in how the ending of an addicts story should be “she wanted a redemption arc” im sure we all wanna live in happy unicorn land but that’s not always the case..
FUCK they got me on canon camera again, i drunkly gave a street interview outside of the bars last night, i have no idea what the questions were, THEY ALWAYS GET ME
@pocbellaswan@stilldexhinton you’re drawing an arbitrary line between observation and analysis when the observation itself already contains an interpretation about how these films construct characterhood
@pocbellaswan@stilldexhinton sure, that would be a further development of the critique, but an observation about how characters are written n how these films treat ppl as existing only within the immediate plot is already film criticism on its own, not every tweet needs to expand into a full cultural thesis
@pocbellaswan@stilldexhinton the original tweet did extract meaning from it, the point was that these films feel hermetic and uninterested in characters outside the immediate narrative machinery. that’s already an interpretation, not just “i noticed a pattern”
@pocbellaswan@stilldexhinton i’m not dying on a hill that it’s bad and problematic, I just watched the movie obsession and i came to the same conclusion that person came to with seven other films referenced I really wasn’t critiquing much lol except for him saying pattern recognization is what chat bots do
