Shocking 🚨
V. Nishant, a 22 years old, third year MBBS student from Nagapattinam Government Medical College, TamilNadu, was found dead in his hostel room.
According to reports he had gone to study last night and did not come out in the morning. His friends broke the door when he did not respond and they found him dead.
I received this message from one of his seniors:
“Hi sir, I'm final year from GMC Nagapattinam Tamilnadu. My junior hanged himself 2 days back he was in 2nd year. He had his microbiology 2nd year supplementary exams the next day. We don't know what made him do it. He was suffering from depression for past 5 6 months n was on treatment. It's really so sad to hear someone die every day from our field.”
How many more medical students have to die before the government and NMC take mental health in medical colleges seriously?
Why are there still no proper counselling systems, stress support mechanisms, and accountability for the environment students are forced to survive in?
Even after cracking one of the toughest exams in the country why are MBBS students taking such steps? Who is responsible for this silence and this repeated loss of young lives?
