Do you confirm the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine?
This was the single question on the ballot during the nationwide referendum on 1 December 1991 – 34 years ago. More than 90% of Ukrainians said “yes” to an independent Ukrainian state.
Crucially, every region supported independence, from Donetsk to Lviv, from Kyiv to Yalta. It was a powerful expression of unity, showing that the desire for a sovereign future was shared across the entire country.
The referendum not only confirmed Ukraine’s path but also accelerated the collapse of the Soviet Union. It demonstrated to the world that our independence was the clear and overwhelming will of the people – the independence we continue to defend today against Russia’s aggression.
Today in Ukraine is Dignity and Freedom Day. It commemorates the beginning of the Orange Revolution of 2004 and the Revolution of Dignity of 2013, when millions of Ukrainians took to protests to defend the right of the people to determine their own future. Some – at the cost of their own lives.
Today, amid Russia’s full-scale war, Ukrainians continue to protect the same values, at the core of which are dignity and freedom, courage, responsibility, human rights, and democracy.
This day reminds us of the power of unity and solidarity. Moscow has tried for centuries to suppress Ukraine’s will, yet Ukrainians have always risen again to defend their dignity and freedom.
We honour the contributions of generations of Ukrainians who defended the right to live in a free country. And we remember those who gave their lives for this cause.
Today we thank everyone who has defended and continues to defend a free, European future for Ukraine.
At least 20 people, including two children, have been killed in Russia’s missile strike on Ternopil.
Rescue operations continue as crews search the rubble. More than 60 people were injured, among them 16 children.
This brutal attack is part of a massive overnight Russian attack across Ukraine. Emergency teams are doing everything possible to save lives. At least 45 people have been rescued.
Russia’s deliberate strikes on civilians and infrastructure once again show that global pressure remains insufficient. Stronger sanctions and timely air-defence support can stop these crimes.
Russia hit the building of the Ukrainian Public Broadcaster “Suspilne” in Dnipro in the massive drone attack on the city on November 18.
The strike caused a fire, blew out windows and doors, and heavily damaged parts of the building – including the studio, which burned down completely.
💬 "Luckily, journalists were not inside. We urge the international community to condemn this strike, as well as Russia’s continued war on journalism," @SpoxUkraineMFA Heorhii Tykhyi has commented.
Despite the destruction, the newsroom continues working, broadcasting live and reporting across all platforms.
Russian viciously attacked Ukraine overnight – a strike deliberately planned to cause the greatest possible harm to people and civilian infrastructure.
Four people were killed and dozens civilians have been injured, including children and a pregnant woman. Russia launched around 430 drones and 18 missiles, including ballistic and aeroballistic weapons.
The strikes targeted Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Sumy regions. Dozens of residential high-rises in Ukraine's capital were damaged, and fragments of an Iskander missile struck the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Ukraine. According to early reports, Russia used a Zircon missile in the Sumy region.
Ukraine is responding with long-range capabilities. The world must act too – by stopping Russia’s ability to fuel this war through oil revenues. Sanctions must close every loophole. Our country and people urgently need additional air-defence systems and interceptor missiles. We count on real decisions from Europe, the United States, and everyone who pursue a just peace.

On the night of October 5, 2025, Russia killed at least five more people in Ukraine, striking regions in the west, east, north, and south of the country. About 10 people are reportedly injured.
To launch these relentless attacks, Russia deployed a wide range of weapons from its deadly arsenal – over 50 missiles, including cruise missiles and Kinzhals, as well as around 500 attack drones. Infrastructure was among the targets.
Ukraine urgently needs strengthened air defense and the rapid implementation of existing defense agreements to stop Russia’s air terror. The path to diplomacy can open through a unilateral ceasefire in the skies – and through decisive actions by America and Europe.
Russia committed another heinous war crime, targeting a railway station in Ukraine’s Sumy region with a drone strike on October 4, 2025. At least 30 people were injured, including passengers and railway personnel.
This attack, just one of thousands deliberately launched against civilians, once again proves that Russia’s strategy is built on terror. For more than 11 years, it has deliberately targeted civilians and refused to stop its war.
It’s time for partners in the United States and Europe to act decisively and hold Russia accountable for its relentless terror and disregard for peace efforts.
Today, 205 Ukrainians finally returned home from Russian captivity. Among them: 183 soldiers and 2 officers of the Armed Forces, National Guard, and Border Guard Service – as well as 20 civilians. Each of them will receive the support they need.
Many of these defenders endured captivity since 2022. They stood in Mariupol, Chornobyl, and other places, and now, after years of waiting, they are back.
Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine has returned more than 7,000 Ukrainians from Russian captivity. Our gratitude goes to everyone who makes these exchanges possible!
We will not stop until every single one returns.
Today, we mark Defenders Day in Ukraine 🇺🇦
Ukrainian defenders show bravery, resilience, and honor every single day. They continue the centuries-long chronicle of the struggle for our country’s freedom and independence, uphold national dignity, and demonstrate the strength of the Ukrainian people to the entire world.
Today and every day, we thank our defenders, veterans, and everyone who contributes to the defense of our land. We also honor the memory of those who gave their lives for our independence.
Glory to Ukraine! 🇺🇦
Glory to the Heroes!
Another deliberate act of Russian terror – a drone strike on Dnipro in broad daylight targeting civilian infrastructure: an office, an apartment building, a dormitory, and a cultural venue. At least 20 people were injured. In addition, Russians also attacked the Nikopol district with heavy artillery, aerial guided bombs, and drones.
Each such strike shows that the current world’s response is insufficient: Russia can still feed its war machine and commit war crimes. What is needed is united, robust pressure – not loud statements, but sanctions that will be felt by Russia’s shadow fleet, its banking sector, the gas and oil arteries of its economy, and its military-industrial complex. Russia must pay.
On September 23, Russia carried out new attacks on multiple Ukrainian regions.
In Zaporizhzhia, a 49-year-old man was killed after an airstrike destroyed a one-story house and damaged nearby buildings.
In the Odesa region, Russia's attack killed one woman and injured three others; fires broke out in five kiosks and several buildings were damaged.
The Dnipro region came under Russian FPV drone and artillery fire; a 19-year-old man was injured and houses were damaged. In Kryvyi Rih, a drone hit an enterprise.
In the Kirovohrad region, a Russian drone strike caused a fire at an infrastructure facility.
While holding a seat at the UN Security Council, Russia keeps attacking Ukrainian cities and towns, killing and injuring civilians.
That is why it is vital for this diplomatic week to deliver real results. Europe, the US, the G7 and G20 countries, and all who support just peace must act together with strong sanctions, political pressure and real accountability.

@IZPoznan The aim of such trips is political education – primarily by familiarising participants with the functioning of various state bodies and providing them with the opportunity to meet the state officials in person.
