According to Kotaku’s anonymous sources the entire id Tech engine team has been laid off, with only one employee reportedly remaining.
One source said they don’t know how the studio will continue supporting the engine, saying:
“The institutional knowledge is just not there. id Tech as a technology is probably dead forever.”
After the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages – Revelations, id Software reportedly has no new game currently approved for development.
It's so rare in the gaming industry for a series to last 10 years and remain so consistent in regards to both quality and storytelling. @idSoftware's modern @DOOM series is a masterpiece and I'm truly blessed to have been able to experience it.
What's worse about the layoffs at ID Software is that DOOM: The Dark Ages Revelations is by far the greatest piece of DOOM content the studio has ever produced, and instead of celebrating this milestone, here we are all in utter disbelief.
