i haaate internet takes about abusive relationships, they're never as nuanced as they should be.

while it is correct that abusers rely on isolating their victims to continue said abuse, and those in community with a victim should be aware of that and reject the isolation..

being in community with an abuse victim is incredibly difficult -- even dangerous (people have been killed trying to rescue victims of abuse) -- and people are allowed to choose their own safety. saving an abuse victim requires specialized knowledge, bandwidth, and specific resources, that i don't think people are villains for not having. it's a bad situation all around, and the blame should remain on the abuser.
