What we explicitly didn't build:
β Vector embedding of your data
β Persistent storage of conversations
β Cross-dashboard or platform-wide AI agent
β Model training on your queries
Some of these are tempting features. They all break the trust model. We chose trust.
Why BYO-key matters:
We don't resell LLM access. You connect your own LLM provider account. Your AI bills go to you, your data agreements stay with you, no new vendor relationship to negotiate with your security team.
The part we think matters most:
Events mode.
For every answer, you can see:
-The Tableau query that was run
-The data returned
-The prompt sent to the LLM
-The LLM's raw response
-No black box. Every step auditable.
#Tableau#EventsMode#Transparency
Our approach:
The extension lives in a single dashboard. It uses the user's PAT to query Tableau, so RLS applies automatically. The LLM gets actual metadata of the dashboard's data source β not free-text descriptions, not a vector DB, the real schema.
None of them are built around what dashboards actually need:
β A scope that's limited to one dashboard, not the whole platform
β Native respect for the permission model you already set up in Tableau
β A way to verify the answer rather than trust the AI blindly
"AI for Tableau" before:
-Tableau Pulse / Einstein: works platform-wide, but you can't control what data the AI sees per dashboard
-ChatGPT wrappers: ignore RLS, send raw data to OpenAI
-Custom MCP integrations: 4-6 weeks of engineering per team
All three have a fundamental issue
After six months of work, our Tableau AI Assistant is available for download today.
Free, BYO-LLM, schema-grounded, native RLS, Events mode.
