On 05 October 2021, a Tuesday, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing after the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) sought an additional three weeks to reconsider whether to continue its appeal against the earlier telecom tribunal decision.
Further, as explained by Mr. HP Ranina, advocate, Supreme Court of India,, the petition before the Hon’ble Supreme Court is merely a formality.
Good… that means Vodafone Idea Limited may receive an additional relief of Rs. 38,871 million (as on March 31, 2020), along with the applicable interest accrued till date. 👍👌
Vodafone Idea’s investor engagement at Jefferies India Access Day in London, alongside the Bombay HC relief on the OTTC matter, marks an encouraging phase for the stock. For those who held on, patience may finally be paying off.

MAJOR RELIEF FOR TELECOM OPERATORS / Bombay High Court sets aside One Time Spectrum Charge demands
Bombay High Court has allowed the writ petitions filed by Vodafone Idea and Airtel challenging the levy of One Time Spectrum Charges (OTSC). The Court has set aside the impugned orders and demand notices issued by the Union of India seeking recovery of OTSC.
The Court has further directed that all bank guarantees furnished by the petitioners in connection with the disputed demands be returned. Any consequential actions taken pursuant to the impugned orders have also been quashed and set aside.
The judgment brings to an end a long-running dispute dating back to 2013 and provides substantial financial and operational relief to telecom operators that had challenged the validity of the OTSC demands.
