Ik that it was just an example but it made me angry to read that an ostomy bag can be considered probable cause of a person having a weapon bc it looks similar especially bc it could put points on their record for being stopped and then they may be policed more often#so339

I was contemplating this as well. bc of the lack of precedents set in determining how far into the technological world the 4th amendment extends, it seems difficult for privacy to be protected granted that police officers are collecting this info w/o any consent #so339
It's interesting thinking ab if cell phones should require a search warrant. I was considering the info that could be gathered from my physical space versus from my phone, and there would be a myriad more info on my phone. This brings up the idea of quantitative privacy #so339
I would agree. I also think it is important to recognize that just as humans make errors so do computers. So many people rely on technology as though it is perfect which can lead to devastating errors in some professions #so339
the irony of police union resisting AVCs yet installing cameras and ALPRs for civilians is almost funny. How can you say your privacy would be taken away and then turn around and do the same thing to literally every other person?? #so339
"its ridiculous... its like does it really matter?" this thought in regard to correct recording of incidents is one of many reasons people have died and continue to die at the hands of police officers #so339
The thought from one of the police officers that these new surveillance technologies are just getting officers is really troubling. if your job is to protect people and you are getting in trouble that means you are doing something wrong and threatening the safety of many #so339
its hard to read about more ways in which the police are not forced to weigh the intended outcome w/ the unintended. Is tracking down gang members with ALPRs really more important than making sure they receive ER care when needed?? #so339
will be more likely to fall into the category of those being watched closely bc of "his past" on the other hand for place based predictive policing it just seems to target the areas that these individuals are likely to live in anyway bc people live by ppl they identify w/
I am struggling to decide if person or place based predictive policing is better- or if one is better at all. On the one hand person based seems more likely to target the wrong individuals bc if a black man is pulled over based on racial profiling a few times he (pt 1) #so339

It seems like saying law enforcement officers are more concentrated in "hot spots" than other areas as a way to be predictive rather than reactive is simply a way to cover up that they view those living in lower income and minority neighborhoods as inevitably dangerous #so339
As the world continues to move online more and more it makes sense that law enforcement would do the same, but it still somewhat feels like an invasion of privacy #so339
for the majority of this book music has felt that it provided freedom until the stories of young people having to hide what they are listening to in public bc it can potentially cause far more serious issues than it is solving #so339
you are right in saying this. I also think its truly sad that the "chads" of the world dont recognize that if they were to act the same way in the neighborhoods they appropriate it actually could mean life or death bc the enemies are real and not a figment of social media #so339
I cannot help but think in this chapter about latent vs manifest intention/meaning. Does the intended purpose of drill music (community, belonging, expression) outweigh the indirect affects (people getting involved in violence that should have nothing to do with them) #so339
the idea of sex tourism is yet another aspect of the drillers' lives that I cannot quite pin down if it is a negative or positive for them- it brings them more attention and a broader fan base, but also perpetuates so many stereotypes #so339
Calling white women "real women" as opposed to the terms they use to describe women of color is incredibly frustrating. The drillers are so supportive of "their people," but apparently that is only when those people are men. Does the same support not apply to women? #so339
I was also struggling with this. It is so inappropriate to fake having the lifestyle of those in Taylor Park when you are living off of your wealthy father's credit card from the luxury and safety of your Beverly Hills home #so339
I also struggle with the idea of social media as evidence because it sometimes seems as though people use it to make their jobs easier or more convenient rather than truly practicing due process #so339
Social media as a tool in the legal system is still a tough concept to me, specifically when used as evidence. In a system that has so many missteps in due process, it is interesting to consider online presence (which weβve deemed as often inauthentic) as evidence #so339
