Let's be 100% clear - the CEO of Disney, Josh D'Amaro wrote this in his memo to the company:
"Given the fast-moving pace of our industries, this requires us to constantly assess how to foster a more agile and technologically-enabled workforce to meet tomorrow's needs. As a result, we will be eliminating roles in some parts of the company and have begun notifying impacted employees."
"Agile" means smaller.
"Technologically-enabled" means using AI generative software.
Incredibly talented and experienced members of the viz-dev team, including Andy, were let go. D'Amaro is expressing a preference for a smaller, less capable team using AI software. Software literally trained on the work and art and creativity of those people who were just fired.
This sucks. Andy has over 40 films under his belt.
