Hi all! Anxious to work some more rare grids in VY0 land? Just got word via FB:
Barring unforeseen circumstances, Alex VE3GOP will be QRV in FP77/FP87 (Qikiqtarjuaq, Nunavut, Canada) between July 21 - August 6 on FM & linear sats. Schedule will depend on workload

@2m0sql I suspect you're right and hope you didn't I was bashing you hi! Look4Sat has in the devel release auto tune for Doppler via Bluetooth to the IC-705! I didn't have time to compile and test, and I still would've had to manually tune the FT-817ND, though I've seen a BT board for it
Just off the RS44 pass, tried @2m0sql helpful app, had to come down a few kHz, managed to work 6 land, talked to myself for several minutes and at the end of the pass got some vertically polarized QRN in the direction of the sat. Heard DL but couldn't complete the QSO :( AO7 next
@ac9o_Paul HF was abysmal most of the trip. Only 20m worked. If it wasn't for FT8 the amount of stations I worked would've been a fraction of what I got.
VY0SAT is officially QRT! It's been a blast. Thank you all for the QSOs, the stories, the patience amidst conditions (& lids hi!). The journey home begins now via Kugaaruk, Cambridge Bay, Yellowknife and Toronto.. sheew! And I work Monday? Ugh. 73 all!
@SP3RNZ I love hearing stories of what people did to work me! Call off sick, ride a bike to a clear spot, drive to the top of a mountain.. it's an honour
@WA2NDV Yes! I think the coldest was -23โฐC/-9โฐF and I don't know what the wind chill was, probably in the -30 range. Today was the warmest at -11โฐC and it's a balmy 4โฐ here on VE8 land for my layover
@2m0sql You're welcome! Sometimes it's hard to juggle between passes that seem like they'd be worthwhile and exploring. I know I didn't give a lot of notice on some passes but I hope most got the opportunity to work me who wanted to
@ve4mm1 That is incredible! There are some extremely talented artisans there. The gift shop had some excellent carvings. XYL was more interested in the clothing and jewelry handicrafts so I was vetoed
@K6SFO@WD9EWK Sorry, bags are checked through. On the way up I tried working from a brief stop that coincided with an SO50 pass in Taloyoak EP79 with a half duplex HT and a long whip, couldn't hear the sat. I'm roving the local brewery instead hi!
Last RS44 pass was great! From British Columbia to Eastern Europe! Thanks for all the QSOs. AO-7 is MIA on Sat status page so will be concentrating on FT8. Last pass of the trip RS44 at 1600z then I have to boogie. Thanks everyone for playing radio with me on this trip!
@AndyEU7A Trying to stay on FT8 as long as possible between sat passes. By 1600z I need to take down HF. Packing all this stuff is a puzzle with time limit hi hi
Ok folks, any west coast interest in the next RS-44, or should I do SO-50 instead? By the way, FT8 people, 20m finally seems to be opening up to some degree from here. Getting a fair amount of QSOs!
@N4AKV_@kikori1906 @2m0sql Yes I've seen it and tried it. Problem is it requires Internet and when I go operate I'm beyond wifi coverage. I calculate where I should be at the beginning of the pass and by the time I can actually hear the sat those frequencies can shift.
@kikori1906 I would absolutely love to work JA! There is only one opportunity. 0520z on AO-7. It is only max 1,2โฐ for me and only 76 seconds. I am a manual tune station so it would be extremely difficult. I can try but I am not very hopeful for success
