12 years ago when I announced @Ghost, I got the most criticism for this line of my original blog post:
"No corporate arm of the law. Ghost would be free as in Mozilla, not as in Automattic ... Every decision made would be about improving the software, not the bottom line."
Maybe now you can see why I wrote it.
Ghost was very deliberately set up as a single-entity non-profit foundation:
- No investors.
- No commercial entity wheeling and dealing in the background with shady tactics.
- No conflicts of interest around ownership of trademarks & domains.
I don't personally own anything to do with Ghost. The Foundation owns everything, and it has no share capital, so I own zero shares.
If anyone is considering starting a new CMS project and would like any advice, let me know. I'm happy to share the many mistakes we made, and the things I think we got right.
The web needs more independent organisations, and it needs more diversity. 40% of the web and 80% of the CMS market should not be controlled by any one individual.
If you don't like the way things are working, make something new and show the world how much better things can be by setting an example of how they can be done differently.
You don't need permission.
Share your ideas, and see where they take you.

Over the last 8 years of living in South London, there has been at least one copy of Hellraiser on VHS on top of the bus stop at East Street.
The most I have ever seen up there is three. No idea how they get there, no idea who regulates it. But it has always been one of my favourite things, a little bit of solitude in the big city.
But recently, for a considerable amount of time, there has been no sign of them. Removed by the council? Vandals? Who knows?
Today, I saw a fresh copy had been placed. It made me feel like all was well in the world again.
@coreypein Side loading is possible but pretty much a non starter for any non technical user. There’s projects aiming to simplify this but it’s nowhere near as easy as it is on Android.
Hey, friends, we just gave our company to planet Earth. OK, it’s more nuanced than that, but we’re closed today to celebrate this new plan to save our one and only home. We’ll be back online tomorrow.

@KatyMontgomerie Squarespace, Wix or Ghost (the managed version). I would not recommend Wordpress or Drupal, they’re too bloated and require too much work to get going when all you want to do is to write.
Ghost also has features similar to substack which might be a bonus.
For days, snow has trapped dozens of people at a pub in Yorkshire, including an Oasis cover band who have been performing for the captive audience https://t.co/1gItY6XvSa
@axelk The amount of PS5 exclusives is really small atm so a 4 is probably a better option, given the availability and price. But, if you’re not into any Sony exclusives, I’d def recommend an Xbox with the game pass, lots of games and really good value.
