I have been carrying immense resentment against the department and institution in which I’m enrolled.
What bothers me is how the pursuit of fieldwork, something fundamental to the discipline of sociology/ socio cultural anthropology, is time- bound in a way that

The idea that capitalists steal surplus value from workers misses the main point Marx is making. Marx's point is that creating value in his sense isn't a self-developing activity, but rather a self-denying activity which turns your time into capital as an alien power over you.
And value conceals its true natural: it's alienated and abstract labor in which the rich and concrete temporarily of living labor is reduced to homogeneous and undifferentiated time. This homogeneous and undifferentiated time is socially necessary labor-time.
Modi deserves to be humiliated everywhere he goes.
He has not given a single press conference in 12 years since he became the Prime Minister. He fails to fulfill the basic transparency and accountability requirements of being a leader.
I would like to encourage foreign journalists from other European countries to ask him questions wherever they see him, just like @HelleLyngSvends did. Embarrass him so much that he is forced to show some accountability in front of people. You will be doing great service for India’s progress.
As James Gray’s Paper Tiger is currently in premiere at Cannes, here’s a throwback to this legendary clip. It permanently changed my perspective on the movie industry.

Remember the curious case of slow counting in Bengal on May 4?
"Wherever the fight was tough for us, counting took place slowly," a BJP worker told Scroll.
By mid-afternoon, this meant the BJP had a strong lead in Bengal even though only a fraction of votes had been counted.
@AnantGuptaAG investigated how this affected a TMC stronghold in Kolkata: Rajarhat New Town.
Once a saffron win seemed imminent in the state, TMC counting agents were forced out from the counting centre, both TMC and CPI(M) told Scroll.
Till then, the TMC was leading with a significant margin. However, *once the TMC agents left*, the data shows that the BJP closed the lead rapidly.
The next day, in a special, extra counting round, with no TMC agents present, the BJP was declared the winner.

An appeal to the constitutionists, lawyers, political scientists, sociologists, and thinking citizens of India.
Please explain this moral conundrum. I have been struggling with this question.
The Election Commission's SIR deleted 90.82 lakh voters from West Bengal's electoral rolls.
24.20 lakh were dead.
The rest, 66.62 lakh, were living people whose names were removed.
So what are they now?
Are they citizens of India? Legally, yes.
The Constitution cannot be changed by an administrative order. Their passports are valid. Their Aadhaar cards exist. The state will tax them, police them, and count them in the census.
Are they a special kind of citizen, Indians who exist but cannot vote?
That is what the law would say. Your name on the voter roll and your status as a citizen are two different things.
The Election Commission controls one. The Constitution guarantees the other.
You can be Indian and have no voice at the same time. The system allows it.
Or are they, in any real sense, citizens at all?
Because a citizen who cannot vote is not really a citizen.
They are just a subject. They pay taxes. They follow laws. They live under a government they had no say in choosing. And they have no way to change that.
In a democracy, a government stays legitimate only as long as the people allow it to govern.
That permission is the vote. Take the vote away and the permission is gone. You are not governing people anymore. You are simply ruling over them.
A government that does this has not just broken a rule. It has broken its own reason to exist. It is sawing off the branch it sits on, and then sitting there as if nothing happened.
66.62 lakh people in West Bengal are sitting on the other side of that saw.
A government so hell bent on winning democracy that it forgets the very tenet of democracy cannot call itself a democracy.
And I have no answer for this question.
Breaking NYT:
The Trump Justice Department is dropping Biden-era charges against Indian billionaire Gautam Adani.
The reversal came after Adani hired a new legal team led by one of Trump's personal lawyers.
That lawyer went to DOJ and made a proposal: If prosecutors dropped the charges, Adani would be willing to invest $10 billion in the American economy and create 15,000 jobs.
