Curious — how do you handle delivery + payment today?

Funny enough, each city ended up with different commuting strategy for me:

In Da Lat I was driving a motorbike, passing faster across the city via winding streets and hilly landscape.

In Da Nang I was enjoing broader streets, longer distances and insane density of free chargers on Vinfast VF3.

In Hanoi I was engoying comfort of electric taxis, as they are pretty affordable and you rarely would need to go out of old quater surroundings.

After 2 months in Vietnam I realized that I have a specific GOAT breakfast in each city where I lived 🏡

I base it solely on my personal perception of that city vibe and climate 🌤️

Bagel in Puna was around 130 VND (~4.5 EUR). A bit more than pure local food, but still unmatchable value compared to Europe.

Finally Hanoi.

It is the place to eat some of the best Bahn Mi in whole Vietnam.
Bánh Mì is a "must" for everyone visiting Vietnam.

My top combo is traditional loaded Hanoi Bahn Mi (3 pork meats: pate, charsiu and sausage, greens, pickles and sauce) with extra pickles + cold Kumquat Tea (ask less sweet).

All is just 50 VND (about 1.7 EUR) almost in old quater area is a steal!

In Da Nang vibe was different.
It is a coastal much more modern city near the sea. Full of expats and builders.

Naturally I sticked to a Salmon Bagel 🥯 in specialty coffee shop
The hit for me was a fried egg instead of scramble there, gives a crunch and yolk creaminess.
Then I could have a bright pourover on spot.

In Da Lat it was definitely a Broken Rice (cơm tấm).

On chilly rainy morning, driving foggy road on scooter, rain to face - that is what you would expect from breaky.
Hot meal of rice, pork steak, fried egg and pickles, accompanied with a cup of hot stock and unlimited hot tea in thermos. All just 45 VND (about 1.5 EUR 🤯)

Funny how perspective shifts when it's your own money.

At my 9-5:
Full observability, tests on everything, spans everywhere, CI running freely, best models by default. Company pays - no one thinks twice.
On my own projects:
Run only crucial tests for specific changesets. Best value models. Log only what actually matters. No dumb dumping. Every token, every CI minute, every trace - it counts.

Same engineer. Completely different decisions.
Ownership changes how you think about every line of spend.

Anyone still gives assignments? That's ridiculous.
Last week I interviewed two people, mostly talking about their experience and asking hypothetical scenarios to understand the mindset.
1 or 2 live pseudocode snippet tasks to show way of thinking.

I preoritized mindset before, now mindset is 90% for candidate. No one needs executors anymore, AI is executor. Think big.

Feels like starting from scratch, but also feels to be the only right way.

So true. I interviewed a girl a year ago with 12 years of experience. In the same company.
HR was so excited, but for me it was a red flag.
In result, Senior level on paper, she appeared to be a Junior for real world questions and assignments (nothing tricky).
My rule of thumb is to switch each 3-5 years, depending on company and duties. Also doing own or side project with technologies you want to learn better would be a great boost.

Da Nang is awesome place for building. Sad to leave.

Hope Spain (and Europe in general) will become more enterpreneurs-friendly some day. So we will get more people hanging there builing things and communities around.
Europe wants social security, but forces people hold their 9-5 whole life or leave elsewhere to build business. Lawmakers do not comprehend that there will be no social security nor healthy economy without micro and small businesses.

Can't say for long term use, but after driving their basic model VF3 for one month I would say it is way better than majority of French, Italian and Japanese A and B class gasoline cars I had chance to drive before.
For their higher tier Limo Green and VF9 I can tell only as a passenger, but they were very comfortable.
I was in Vietnam almost 9 years ago, and back now. They are far from Singapore, but it looks like a noticible leap not many SEA countries currently can match.

@StefanRows @Hetzner_Online Yeah, I am more concerned about the maintenance ownership, not initial setup. Now my apps security and dependencies is my responsibility, server security and dependencies is Vercel's.
With Hetzner or AWS it will be mine too 😅
That's why I am pushing that moment to later.

@StefanRows @Hetzner_Online Hmm, I guess that waits me this year. I had to split the projects across separate Vercel accs last week as temporary solution. So far I like the idea that Vercel takes care of my devops, I already have too much devops at my 9-5.
