it is actually bonkers that an adaption of DUNE - a story with a significant lore element about a war against “thinking machines” - is being delayed in part because of a fight over AI
Watched #Oppenheimer yesterday & holy symbolism batman!
I couldn't help but laugh at the subtle and strategic🖕🏽Nolan gave to #Hindutva ideology by injecting that famous quote in a sex scene. There were a million ways to do it, but that's what he went for. 👏🏽
Oppenheimer's sex scenes are prompting divisive responses and boycott calls from Hindu audiences due to the appearance of the Bhagavad Gita. https://t.co/dGgo45MaEH
@vinnipogo Monsoon in Himalayas are no joke! 😳
I went to Sikkim in winter, but it was still shocking to see the destruction on the roads left behind by landslides.
The DUNE 2 trailer. *Livid* abt the erasure.
In the bk, "Long live the fighters!" [lit. martyrs in Arabic] is "Ya hya chouhada" - from Algerian war for independence against France.
Film replaces it w (perhaps) gibberish. The audacity to parade this as the marketing tagline!

@IDEASOFICE_FIRE Not very obscure, but worth a shot: Ursula K. Le Guin.
She was writing diverse (wrt. gender, race, sexuality) and complex characters long before it became cool.
@germany_iam Ahh...then there's always disagreements about the "language of argument". I don't like to argue in German, and my husband doesn't want to argue in Eng. 😆 Do you guys have this too? How do you resolve this?
@germany_iam This isn't even considering the neurological benefits of learning a 2nd language, proven by several long term studies of bilingual people.

@germany_iam It's like taking several steps back. There's quite a few multilingual countries in the world where kids are taught 2+ languages. It works out just fine and they don't end up with a cultural identity crisis.
@40PercentGerman Yup, exactly why I stopped cooking with my (German) husband. To his credit he's an excellent baker though, so he gets to do his chemistry experiments in the kitchen all right.
