Every shot is a story NOT yet told.
Don't rush to understand things.
Some things take more time than your brain can imagine.
What you think is meaningless today might later become critical for your story.
The trend to glamorize the ‘hustle’ in the creative industry makes me wonder…
My best ideas come in stillness or chaos.
Yet I often work too much.
If the goal is to make cool stuff, we should probably try to strive for a balance, right?
The fear of failure can prevent filmmakers from starting their first project.
But failing is want make you progress.
You need to fail more often.
At least if you want to make interesting stuff.
How much is too much passion?
I know for me burnout is more connected to doing stuff you don't want to do.
So work with people you like.
Tell stories you want to tell.
Don't get hypnotized by the money.
Make with less.
What gear helps you tell your stories?
For me, the camera is an extension of insight, capturing what we value.
Nobody cares about how your film looks.
Not really.
It's all about story.
What story are you trying to tell?
Technology is advancing rapidly, changing the way we approach documentary filmmaking.
While I embrace new tools, I hold onto the belief that they should serve the story, not overshadow it.
How has technology influenced your storytelling?
Nobody's will to pay you to make a film before you've made a film.
No funding.
No clients.
No dinner.
Everything changes once you make your first feature film.
But only if you finish it...
It's not something you want to do.
It's something you have to do.
Many filmmakers fear the saturation of content will drown unique voices.
I feel that authentic stories will always find their audience, regardless of noise. The battle is to keep making when nobody’s watching.
How do you ensure your voice stands out?
In filmmaking, we often find ourselves at a crossroads
The allure of cutting-edge gear on one side
And the raw power of storytelling on the other.
The problem?
Technological seduction.
The latest cameras overshadow the essence of what truly connects: the story.
In today’s world, we often mistake busy for productive in filmmaking.
I believe true productivity in our craft comes from meaningful creations, not just the volume of work.
What does productivity in filmmaking mean to you?
So awesome to finally release this! Shot it while making @pearlofafricatv. They were meant to be part of a tv-series with five different perspectives or Uganda. We ran out of money... But now we’ve finished one more story! TRAILER: https://t.co/WmL3SorD0t
