CORRECTIONAl SERVICE WEEK 2024 DAY TWO .
In a comprehensive day 2 forum dedicated to advancing corrections practices, the event featured a series of impactful presentations and discussions centered on peace education and mental health within correctional facilities.
Today was a great day well spent at Kaptagat Girls High School, Uasin Gichu County where @kutrrh is partnering with the school to plant trees as per the Hospital's effort in meeting the targets set by MoH.
The County was allocated to MoH as one of the tree planting locations under the Government policy on 30% forest restoration by 2032. The Chandaria Foundation supports the tree Nurseries through Global Peace Organization at Kaptagat Girls school.
My key advice to the girls was for them to remember that the current adversities do not define how their future will be if they work hard and stay focused. Together with my friends and Dr. Chandaria, we offered two girls a scholarship and appreciated the creativity of the girls.
Thank you, Chief Principal Florence Natembea and your team for your hard work.
Today, I had the honour of celebrating International Women's Day with the women at Kisumu Women's Prison and launching the construction of the Chandaria Kisumu Women Prison Workshop, which will teach the inmates income-generating skills to enable them to support their families once they re-integrate into society.
H.E. Rachel Ruto, @FirstLadyKenya, graced the groundbreaking ceremony of the construction of the Chandaria Kisumu Women's Prison workshop on #InternationalWomensDay2024. This marks a significant step towards empowering women inmates, goes to #InspireInclusion2024 and celebrates the diverse abilities and achievement of women.
Accompanied by the Correctional Services PS, Dr. @salomebeacco, the event included a tour of Kisumu prison facility where the First Lady interacted with inmates, enjoyed their poems and dances, showcasing their talents.
In line with the #IWD2024 theme "Invest in women, accelerate progress," the workshop aims to equip women inmates with essential skills for successful reintegration into society.
@CorrectionalKE PS extended gratitude to H.E. Rachel Ruto for her invaluable support and guidance in fulfilling the mission of rehabilitating and reintegrating offenders. The PS recognized and appreciated the Chandaria Foundation for the enduring partnership and unwavering support through the years.
In her keynote address, H.E @FirstLadyKenya commended Kisumu Women's Prison staff for providing optimal care for the children accompanying their mothers to prison. The First lady emphasized the transformative power of investing in women: “When you invest in a woman, she transforms her family and community as well.”
H.E. @MamaRachelRuto announced she would introduce a @CarakanaInt cross-stitching training program at the facility fostering economic empowerment for women. This initiative, launched in 2016 through @MamaDoingGood, aims to empower women economically, providing them with valuable skills to earn a living after they reintegrate back to society.
"Kenyans have understood the link between humans & Nature... i echo the idea that each person should plant & grow 30 trees annually, not just in Kenya but across the Globe." @andersen_inger , during the Launch of the Firstlady's Restoration Strategy
