@Loiddell@ApollinePeony Oh my goodness yes. Mulan was a part of my childhood. I feel the resonance you feel, even then the focus on filial piety is also a huge part of Mulan and also what my older relatives would point out lol.
@ApollinePeony disagreed… it’s just difficult for someone like me who is not cisgender or straight to not see the obvious queerness in the story. They do indeed have her reveal her disguise and the pairing is male & female but the circumstances of their scholarship/courtship is important to me
@ApollinePeony Hello, I saw your thread suggested to me and it’s well down! Thank you… I had a question about stories like Butterfly Lovers, I tried to argue that the woman disguised as a male scholar who is beloved by her male classmate can be considered queer but older members of my family
@yurodivys I’m glad you’re doing better now. I understand why other users may be wary but I don’t believe your situation is comparable to say rich well off travelers beg-packing and negatively impacting locals. I hope others may never experience family altering events of which DV is one.
@StinkyBlueRat Am I missing something? Is the obvious tell not FLAVOUR the with a U is British spelling for an ad in the middle of Gotham, USA? QA would catch that
Claude users know this phenomenon. scientists are studying it. yet when your faves on AO3 do it and we can’t stop noticing it, we’re witch hunting? I’m asking: what is the human explanation for Elena, Marcus, Sarah Chen, Patricia, Volkov, Vance, Elias, 47, *all* in these fics?
if you think it’s just a coincidence that “sarah” “marcus” “chen” are used repeatedly over a series of fics (even multiple times in one fic) then i recommend reading this article: The Ghost Couple: Correlated LLM Name Priors and Their Haunting of the Web and Academic Publishing
@VenandrVT@htGOIW Original poster said shoujo manga has more diverse characters including foreign ones. Rose of Versailles is a shoujo manga. I think the point is that shonen manga editorial refuses to take these risks.
@pinknishii Me reading the caption and then getting whacked by the end of this trailer… I understand the hopeful interpretation. If this anime fails me at least I know “the lovers” is a confirmed mermaid yuri that won’t fail me
@baconatmhxx Well, there is no need to tell me. I am responding to the request for suggestions. I’m explaining what is happening in the snowballing response to the two image post. Wicked is a western media with young fans and Twitter unfortunately has certain social structures toward pile-ons
@rakucliche@biululu999 For what is worth, the two examples are out of two hundred artworks. I understand the cherry-picking can be unfair and no effort was made to talk to biululu to resolve this. I am merely a lurker. The situation compelled me to attempt to bridge the gap. Perhaps nothing can be done
@rakucliche@biululu999 I am not demanding my logic be accepted, I am explaining the reason for the harsh reaction especially to the fantasy race interpretation. The orc / elf is a deliberate contrast that has racial connotations when imposed on a black woman and white woman.
@rakucliche@biululu999 I am explaining the interpretation because discrimination exists in America and the West. There is a history to why interpretations are made. Being aware of this helps navigation and understanding. No one is reaching out to communicate, so I thought to try.
