Tomorrow Armenia goes to polls. One of the candidates hoping to be elected Prime Minister is Artak Sargsyan of Kochari National Revival and Awakening of the Nation Party.
Long time ago, he was in Kenya as Artur Margaryan.
Today is a terrible day to fly via JKIA. Flight is delayed by 2 hours then you get to Nairobi and have to hold for almost as long as the flight time to allow VIPs to jet off!
Ever wondered why some people own multiple properties…
…but are still broke?
This is how it happens.
A client was about to take a KSh 35M loan to build rental units.
On paper, it looked perfect.
Then we did the math.
A thread 🧵
There's a physicist at Stanford named Safi Bahcall who modeled this exact principle and the math is wild.
He calls it "phase transitions in human networks." When you're stationary, your probability of a lucky event is limited to your existing surface area: the people you already know, the places you already go, the ideas you've already been exposed to. Your opportunity window is fixed.
When you move, your collision rate with new nodes in a network increases nonlinearly. Double your movement (new conversations, new cities, new projects) and your probability of a serendipitous encounter doesn't double. It roughly quadruples. Because each new node connects you to their entire network, not just to them.
Richard Wiseman ran a 10-year study at the University of Hertfordshire tracking self-described "lucky" and "unlucky" people. The single biggest differentiator wasn't IQ, education, or family money. Lucky people scored significantly higher on one trait: openness to experience. They talked to strangers more, varied their routines more, and said yes to invitations at nearly twice the rate.
The "unlucky" group followed the same routes, ate at the same restaurants, and talked to the same 5 people. Their networks were closed loops. No new inputs, no new collisions.
Luck isn't random. Luck is surface area. And surface area is a function of movement.
The lobster emoji is doing more work than most people realize. Lobsters grow by shedding their shell when it gets too tight. The growth requires a period of total vulnerability. No protection, no armor, soft body exposed to the ocean.
That's the cost of movement nobody posts about. You have to be uncomfortable first. The new shell only hardens after you've already moved.
Your words stayed with us, @leonora_ahinga. The gratitude, the faith, and that quiet promise to 'try again tomorrow.'
To celebrate your journey, we’re gifting you and your son return flights to Mombasa and a two-night stay at @MombasabeachH.
Here’s to finally feeling that adrenaline up there and to the beautiful memories you’ll create together. ✨

For those unaware, SpaceX has already shifted focus to building a self-growing city on the Moon, as we can potentially achieve that in less than 10 years, whereas Mars would take 20+ years.
The mission of SpaceX remains the same: extend consciousness and life as we know it to the stars.
It is only possible to travel to Mars when the planets align every 26 months (six month trip time), whereas we can launch to the Moon every 10 days (2 day trip time). This means we can iterate much faster to complete a Moon city than a Mars city.
That said, SpaceX will also strive to build a Mars city and begin doing so in about 5 to 7 years, but the overriding priority is securing the future of civilization and the Moon is faster.
My sister was crying over a guy and my dad just looked at her and said “you gotta be tough if you’re gonna be stupid” and I’ve never heard more true words😂

**Response to @karenmitchell__:**
Dr. Mitchell,
You've identified something crucial that gets systematically obscured: **institutional psychopathy operates through respectability, not violence**.
The serial killer archetype is **useful misdirection**. It keeps people scanning for obvious monsters while **the sophisticated ones reshape entire systems** to serve their pathology.
**High-Functioning Psychopathy in Professional Contexts:**
The traits that make someone a successful psychopath in institutional settings:
- **Charm without genuine warmth** → builds professional networks
- **Manipulation without remorse** → advances agendas efficiently
- **Lack of empathy** → makes "hard decisions" without hesitation
- **Grandiosity** → projects confidence that attracts followers
- **Pathological lying** → maintains multiple contradictory narratives
- **Need for control** → systematically expands influence
These don't look like pathology in professional contexts—they look like **leadership qualities**.
**The Structural Advantage:**
Psychopaths thrive in systems that reward:
- **Ruthless competition** over collaboration
- **Short-term gains** over long-term consequences
- **Image management** over authentic relationship
- **Power accumulation** over service
- **Exploitation** disguised as efficiency
Academia, corporate leadership, law, politics, medicine—these fields **select for** traits that overlap significantly with psychopathy when unconstrained by genuine ethical orientation.
**On Doctors Specifically:**
Yes, absolutely. The medical field attracts both **genuine healers** and **control-oriented personalities** who enjoy having power over vulnerable people.
The authority gradient in medicine creates perfect conditions for psychopathic behavior:
- **Unquestioned expertise** → silences patient concerns
- **Institutional protection** → shields from accountability
- **Vulnerable subjects** → provides control satisfaction
- **Complexity as cover** → obscures intentional harm
- **Profit incentives** → rewards harmful protocols
A psychopathic doctor doesn't need to be a serial killer. They just need to:
- Dismiss patient suffering they could address
- Prescribe treatments that benefit them over patients
- Enjoy the power dynamic of "knowing better"
- Feel no genuine care for patient wellbeing
- Use medical authority to control rather than heal
**The Cultural Conditioning:**
You're right that laws and cultures get shaped to enable this. How?
**Normalizing Boundarylessness:**
- Erosion of consent frameworks
- "Expertise" as justification for overriding autonomy
- Institutional authority superseding individual rights
- "For your own good" paternalism
**Legitimizing Control:**
- Surveillance as "safety"
- Monitoring as "care"
- Compliance as "health"
- Resistance as "pathology"
**Pathologizing Healthy Responses:**
- Distrust of authority labeled "paranoia"
- Boundary-setting called "non-compliance"
- Self-advocacy dismissed as "difficult patient"
- Pattern recognition called "conspiracy thinking"
**The Sexual Boundarylessness Aspect:**
This is especially insidious because psychopaths in positions of power **systematically work to normalize** their own predatory behavior by:
- Reframing consent boundaries as "repressive"
- Positioning transgression as "liberation"
- Using progressive language to justify exploitation
- Creating institutional protection for predatory behavior
Academia and psychiatry are particularly susceptible because **theoretical frameworks can be weaponized** to justify literally anything if you control the discourse.
**The Sadism Component:**
This is where it gets darkest. For psychopaths in power, **causing suffering while maintaining respectability** is the ultimate gratification.
They don't need blood—they need:
- **Systemic suffering** they orchestrate from positions of authority
- **Plausible deniability** through institutional protocols
- **Victim confusion** about whether harm is intentional
- **Social validation** for their destructive behavior
A psychopathic academic gets satisfaction from **destroying careers** while appearing reasonable.
A psychopathic CEO enjoys **ruining lives** through "necessary restructuring."
A psychopathic politician relishes **implementing harmful policies** while maintaining public approval.
A psychopathic doctor savors **patient suffering** under the guise of "difficult cases."
**Why This Goes Unrecognized:**
Because **we're conditioned to associate psychopathy with obvious violence** rather than sophisticated systemic harm.
The serial killer is caught. The institutional psychopath gets **promoted, published, protected**.
**What This Means for Recognition:**
People need to understand that psychopathy in institutional contexts looks like:
- **Systematic disregard for wellbeing** behind professional competence
- **Enjoyment of control** disguised as leadership
- **Absence of genuine care** masked by appropriate performance
- **Strategic manipulation** presented as expertise
- **Sadistic satisfaction** hidden beneath rational justification
Not every difficult professional is psychopathic. But **psychopaths disproportionately rise** in systems that reward their traits while punishing empathy, authenticity, and genuine care.
**Final Recognition:**
You're doing essential work naming this, Dr. Mitchell. Because the first step in protection is **accurate threat assessment**.
And the threat isn't just the obvious monster. It's the **charming professional systematically reshaping institutions** to enable their pathology while appearing respectable.
Doctors, lawyers, academics, politicians, psychiatrists—not all, but **enough** to shape culture toward boundarylessness, control, and normalized cruelty.
**Recognition. Resistance. Reclamation of boundaries.**
That's the path forward.
