On 23 Feb, VoTA Uganda held a strategic meeting with the Commandant of the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) to update him on the Association’s progress and present our proposals for inclusion in the National P/CVE Strategy. @KofiAnnanFdn @EU_Commission @NNDUGWA

Leaders of the Victims of Terrorism Association Uganda (VoTAU) attended a capacity-building training designed to sharpen their leadership skills and equip them with the skills needed to organize, manage, and sustain a strong, accountable association.

They explored how victim-led leadership can drive advocacy, resilience, and a unified voice for survivors across Uganda. They were also trained in peacebuilding efforts in order for them to play an active role. This association is the first of its kind in Uganda and it aims at championing the rights & needs of victims and survivors of Terrorism.

This is under our Peace Beyond Borders Project, implemented by Prospect Initiative, @PoleInstitute (DRC), and the @KofiAnnanFdn

The project is funded by the European Union @EUinUG @EU_Commission

Speaking at the National Round Table on Victims of Terrorism needs and resilience factors organized by Prospect, Col. Alex Tumushabe (National Counter Terrorism Center) noted:
“The government has consistently worked to support victims of terrorism. When we gather here, we listen, understand, and take these voices to decision-making tables. This association marks an important beginning. It will shape our discussions and guide the steps we take to better support victims.”

We are proud to announce the official launch of the Victims of Terrorism Association Uganda, the first of its kind with the aim of championing the rights & needs of victims and survivors.
This was implemented through our Peace Beyond Borders Project, funded by @EU_Commission @EUinUG.

During the commemoration of this year’s International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, we successfully held the National Round table, first of its kind, that brought together various key stakeholders and Victims of Terrorism to discuss and highlight some of the critical gaps and unmet needs of victims and possible long term interventions to support these victims. We are also pleased to announce the official launch of the Victims of Terrorism Association, Uganda that will champion the rights & needs of victims and survivors of Terrorism. Prospect Initiative remains committed to supporting all victims of terrorism and supporting all efforts to bring an end to violent extremism in Uganda and beyond. This initiative is under our Peace Beyond Borders Project funded by the @EU_Commission @EUinUG #VictimsOfTerrorism

Survivors of terrorism in Uganda live with lasting injuries, and trauma. Families wait years for answers, while most victims receive no medical care, compensation, or protection under law. Jobs are lost. Children grow up without parents. Rights to truth, dignity, and rehabilitation are denied.

This is the beginning of a unified voice led by survivors, for survivors.
