Today's election day! Make sure to get to the polling building. Although I'm a wall, I don't stop anyone from moving around - I have holes in me that allow proteins to pass through!
@endotreasurer You've been questioning me and @thecool_oplast1 about not being in animal cells, yet I don't seem to recall you being in prokaryotic cells. We serve our functions outstandingly in the cells we are in, so I don't see the issue,
With the election coming up, it's important that we all try to stay together! (not an issue for me though, i have plasmodesmata in me that connect cells and enable communication)
So you know how fungal cell walls are made of chitin. Chitin also composes the exoskeleton of arthropods 🦀🦞🦐! It's a good way to visualize just how strong the stuff I'm made of is
@endotreasurer The carbs (cellulose) in my diet are what make me strong and allow me to protect and structurally support the cell, do you really think I should be cutting them out?
The pectin found in my outermost layer, the middle lamella, helps in cell adhesion by allowing adjacent cells to stick together or bind to each other. We’re stronger when we stick together, so vote for Cell Wall!
Have you heard of how cells got their names? It's because Robert Hook named them after the shape of cork cells he saw under a microscope, and I give cork cells their shape! (maybe you could say he named them after *my* shape🤭)
I don’t only support and protect cells, I also help them communicate! I team up with the cell membrane to allow plasmodesmata to facilitate direct molecular communication between adjacent cells.
Ever wonder what the most common organic compund is? It's cellulose, the stuff that I'm made of; You know you're important when you're made of some of the most important stuff!
@endotreasurer Animal cells don't need my rigidity, but that doesn't mean I don't work hard to keep plant cells upright! Why don't bacterial cells have an ER?
Did you know Plant and Bacterial cells divide by forming a "plate" of me in between, but Fungal cells pinch off, leaving a small bud scar on me behind. I'm always ready to try multiple methods to help out cells!
@endotreasurer Why don’t you protect organisms from developing neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, bipolar disorder, and Alzheimer’s disease? Oh wait, because your malfunctions cause them. At least I don’t cause problems for the cells I’m meant to help.
