Baba Deep Singh Ji (1682–1757) was a prominent Sikh warrior and scholar who lived during the time of the Sikh Gurus and after their period. He was a devout disciple of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru, and played a significant role in the defense of the Sikh faith during a particularly tumultuous time in history when Sikhs were facing persecution from the Mughal authorities.

Baba Deep Singh Ji was born in the village of Pahuwind in the Amritsar district of Punjab, India. Trained in reading and writing as well as in martial arts, he was well-versed in Sikh scriptures and Gurmukhi, the script used for the Punjabi language. He became one of the revered heads of the Damdami Taksal, a Sikh religious institution or seminary which at the time was a center for religious learning and a repository for the Sikh religious texts. Under Guru Gobind Singh's direction, he helped prepare many copies of the Sikh scriptures, including the Guru Granth Sahib.

His legacy includes his outstanding bravery and contributions to Sikh military campaigns. Legend holds that Baba Deep Singh Ji vowed to die in the precincts of the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) when it was desecrated by the Mughal forces. At the age of 75, he is renowned for his last stand against the Mughals, in which he continued to fight and march towards the Golden Temple despite having received a mortal wound to the neck. Baba Deep Singh Ji is said to have died as a martyr in the defense of the Sikh faith while combating the Mughal forces.

Baba Deep Singh Ji is remembered as a symbol of courage and determination, embodying the spirit of Chardi Kala, a Sikh concept that speaks to maintaining a positive and optimistic outlook, even in the face of adversity. His memory is honored with a great deal of respect within the Sikh community, and his life story continues to inspire Sikhs around the world.
