After more than five decades of quiet persistence, West 8th Street in Greenwich Village NYC now bears the name Jimi Hendrix Way.
The naming was unveiled on June 10, just steps from Electric Lady Studios—the recording space Hendrix commissioned in 1968 and which remains an active facility today.
The ceremony brought together guitarist Steven Van Zandt, longtime Hendrix engineer and producer Eddie Kramer, and Hendrix's sister Janie, among others, who noted that the family's effort to memorialize her brother on this block began shortly after his death in 1970.
