For those of us that have thought out how we want to landscape our gardens, now is the time to put pen to paper. They say things are built twice, once a vision is built in our head and on paper and then our vision is built into reality.

To save money on watering and control weeds, and look good in the process choose mulch about 2 to 4 inches deep. There is a large variety of wooden chips that come in a variety of colors.
One method to reduce tilling is to lay down a thick layer of newspaper to kill grass, layer manure, soil and compost and mulch. Plant in the top of the layers and then you can add new organic material in the future as needed.
In ground gardens, traditional vegetable and perennial beds might be a permanent part of your landscape. They will need more attention such as regular watering, weeding and maintenance.
