Electric vehicle (EV) battery technology company Britishvolt has announced it is buying German battery cell developer and manufacturer EAS in a deal worth β¬36 million (Β£30.6m).

@ofgem π€.. #energycrisis <Logic hat on> .. Β£/kWh=fuel and variable costs / Standing charge=fixed costs&admin.
So, why would a regulator consider it appropriate to NOT REGULATE on large increases to daily standing charges when variable fuel costs don't effect fixed costs?? .. π
@EnergyUKcomms π€.. & that action could be via schemes that (i)have little/no Β£admin & (ii)no direct public funding: eg The 20%VAT on UK domestic #EnergyStorage deters adoption, limiting uptake & tax take .. Zeroing VAT= #carbonneutral + #economy stimulus with virtually no cost or effort!
@NationalGridESO π€ ... odd, localised prices deliver net-zero?/ investment?/<Β£?/competition? ... other than increasing cost on a geo-targetted basis to encourage consumer/business decentralised self-generation investment to reduce bills then the option seems illogical !! ... π
@k_feldborg Your next mission, should you choose to accept it - Repeat egg process & add some (low emission) toast ... As always, should you/any kitchen appliance be burned, we will disavow any knowledge of your actions.
Unfortunately, this message will not self-destruct in ten seconds! βΉοΈ
@elonmusk How many of these car size woofers do you reckon would be needed to balance the sound quality against just your own 32M tweeters? ... π€ ... don't want it sounding like a tinny '70s transistor radio!
@EmilyBeament @theCCCuk π€- Of which a considerable proportion of flood mitigation could be injected (at near zero cost!) with little effort via a realistic new-build/floodplain planning policy
A little focus & that one could be in place before Spring is over!

@NGControlRoom π€... Can't recall seeing a negative generation report for storage (pumped hydro), so as it's the most logical outcome when efficiencies are included, is the energy required for pumping netted off other forms of generation or is there double accounting somewhere along the line?
@EICinsights π€ .. however, households employing high energy #efficiency measures coupled with #RenewableEnergy technologies have likely already consumed their last #Gas until sometime in November! ...
@bulbcarbonbot β οΈ Not here though ... the washing machine is currently churning around at the end of it's 2Hr+ cycle & the carbon intensity for the whole time has been ... wait for it ... zero! π
So much for πβ° bleeping experts! π

@Mike_Thommo@watsonjim2@theCCCuk π€ ... maybe, but the ball size must be defined: is the emissions game best played with macro or micro sized balls?
Effort focus at a macro scale invariably overcomplicates relatively simple issues, the ball being too big to focus on, the main causal of project stall or fail!
@NGControlRoom π€ ... Very good, but can someone now explain how the #lowcarbon#nuclear#energy flowing from France are accounted for in the above percentages of GB electricity demand ... if imports are ignored then the 54.6% as claimed is illogical, understated & technically incorrectβοΈ
@106Euan@Lukafoto@TheRealGaryC@bobbyllew@KateFantom@The_PlugSeeker π€ ... and it's basically the same issue in the local/domestic microgeneration energy sector, apart from hydrogen fuel-cell overall efficiency improvements through using the co-product in space or DHW heating ...
(apart from the relative capital depreciation timeline!)
@wannesvangiel @CharlesCMann @OikosDenktank @WeMakeTheShift@BeterLeefmilieu π€ ... however, applying the 2010 onwards #battery analysis window to domestic #Solar installations would also resolve to ~5x.
Storage as a 'consumer' product is price-point sensitive: in the UK the tipping point is likely <Β£150/kWh installed, so 4-5x reduction still required!
@DrChrisJardine Maybe breaking news somewhere around March 22nd 1919, but in 2019 I would have thought that it was more like common knowledge .... π
π€... On the much rumoured autonomous hover-pallet delivery system & heading for the vacant destination charge points too? ... now that's really cool! ... ππ

@UKStorageEnergy Logic of 0.64% .. π€
As generation from #Storage shows as a %age of total generation, is charging storage netted off energy generated by other sources?
If so, how is the netting process allocated to source? - if not shouldn't round trip losses always net storage to <zero?
