The British were among the greatest patrons of Urduvi Indo-Muslim culture and art. They never disrespected Islam or Muslims in India.

From China to Africa to London, they built and helped build Mosques for Indian Muslims.

This mosque was was older than the Republic of India itself, built by the British govt. for Muslim staff.

Empress Victoria and her successors never destroyed mosques in India or deliberately attempted to insult or offend Muslims. They were mosque builders.

Everything is not black and white.

Imagine demanding patriotism from the Muslims, and repeatedly and deliberately destroying their places or worship.

I'm convinced that the idea that only uneducated and unemployed Hindus vote for the BJP is complete nonsense. I was talking to a Hindu man and woman who initially seemed totally normal, secular and well educated. They openly hated the BJP and even cursed them, yet they still wanted Yogi Adityanath as CM of Uttar Pradesh because they believed women were safer in the state because of him.

When I told them that this wasn't true, proved them wrong and explained why it's important to vote against the BJP because of what Muslims are currently going through, including the demolition of mosques and shrines, the misuse of laws against Muslims and the protection of Hindus who lynched Muslims, their entire attitude changed. They started denying the issues Muslims are facing and then said that even if all of it was true, it was temporary and not enough of a reason to vote against the BJP.

This is why people need to stop believing that only uneducated and unemployed Hindus vote for the BJP. Educated or uneducated, employed or unemployed, progressive or conservative, there are Hindus who will still put their political interests above the suffering of Muslims. They don't see what Muslims are going through as something serious. They see it as a small sacrifice that can be justified if they believe it prevents other crimes or serves their interests.

I'm honestly losing hope that there are enough sane Hindus who can genuinely be allies to Muslims. At this point, I think Indian Hindu society needs serious deradicalisation and a fundamental rethinking of the ideas that have normalised this attitude towards Muslims.
