Yeah, I totally see it. The anime shows how morally depraved the leaders are and how helpless normal people are while they're caught in the conflicts.

Nobody asked for their home to be gassed and be used to destroy their supposed enemies.

@VitisSweets For me, it's because Evil Robot Rival has been done. I just always liked that trope.
Like DBZ and the Android Saga, Big Guy and Rusty, Cyborg Superman, etc.
