throughout chapter 45 and 46, you can see how much being thanked and appreciated means to dorothy.

during the attack with sixo, she protected the humans and they thanked her. when the commander said that he believed in her, and trusted her, she couldn't believe what she was hearing. when she was thanked by burningum for being the goddess of victory...

she doesn't want to show it. she doesn't want to hope again. she doesn't want to open up and be hurt.
