Flash of frustration just now from Thune toward Cassidy, noting Cassidy spent hours working with Dems and going to the parl but couldn't get there on the anti-weaponization language:
"they spent, you know, wasted 15 hours doing it. So you guys got to stay here for a long time, and so did we, and you know I mean all these votes could have been held 12 to 15 hours ago"
It is beyond EMBARRASSING that “Republicans” continue to block the SAVE America Act.
@SenThomTillis, @LisaMurkowski, @SenMcConnell, and @SenatorCollins have not only betrayed their constituents — they are ACCOMPLICES in Democrats’ “Illegals First” agenda.
The people of North Carolina, Alaska, Kentucky, and Maine deserve better.
News: A critic of RFK’s vaccine policies and a longtime pharma CEO are among the candidates Trump health officials are vetting for FDA commissioner, ppl familiar tell me and @owermohle.
The wide-ranging search is the latest sign of MAHA's loosening grip on Trump's health agenda.
While Platner is doing an MSNow interview to respond to NYTimes story, Thune is currently congratulating Susan Collins on the floor for taking her 10K vote
Tillis and Cassidy are racing against the clock trying to get an amendment killing the weaponization fund for good, that can pass at a simple majority.
“I think there are some members that felt pretty strongly [that we] need to get it out,” Tillis said. “Whether or not it's enough to really force the issue ... I don't know if we're there yet.”
PULTE - TEMPORARY. Confirmed, per source familiar, the White House has communicated to Congress that Bill Pulte will not be nominated as a permanent DNI.
Not clear this will assuage Democrats' problems with him even serving in the acting role. But the few Republicans I spoke with since this happened say that this news helps - as they head toward FISA debate.
TILLIS says definitively that he won’t vote for final passage of the immigration enforcement bill if it doesn’t restrict the weaponization fund.
“I won't be binary, but it's got to restrict it.”
He’s been signaling this all week, telling reporters it’ll be hard for him to vote for the bill without some restrictions.
Murkowski, Husted, Sullivan, Moran, Tillis, Collins all vote with Dems to restrict public and private funding for East Wing renovation/ballroom without authorization from Congress. it falls short of 60 needed, 52-47
Some Republicans have defected on every amendment so far!
Senate is now voting on Tillis's amendment reallocating funds that would've been used for the weaponization fund to fraud enforcement.
There's bipartisan opposition to the measure. But a few Rs are voting for it w/ Tillis. These Rs, so far, include:
- Cornyn
- Cassidy
- Moran
- Rounds
- Sullivan

With Cassidy voting with Rs to kill the Schumer motion to recommit, this allows Sullivan and Husted—both in tough races this cycle—to vote with Dems on sending the bill back to committee.
Cassidy lost his reelection bid last month.
Vote is now 49Y-50N. If this vote holds, the motion will fail
Mood check: Thune was asked if he was confident Tillis’s amendment would be defeated.
“I’m not confident of anything right now,” he said with a chuckle.
