BMA Processes More Than 8,200 Repatriated Foreign Nationals at Beitbridge
The Border Management Authority (BMA) says it has processed 8,230 repatriated foreign nationals through the Beitbridge Port of Entry between 12 and 24 June 2026. According to BMA Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato, the total includes 6,709 Malawian nationals transported on 112 buses and 1,521 Zimbabwean nationals transported on 26 buses.
The BMA said all repatriated individuals were processed in the presence of officials from their respective embassies to verify their identities and travel documentation. However, on Thursday morning, 17 buses carrying foreign nationals arrived at the border without the required Emergency Travel Certificates and were redirected to the Musina truck stop area until the necessary documentation could be obtained.
Masiapato also raised concerns about transport operators failing to comply with legal requirements, including the lack of cross-border permits and drivers travelling without valid passports. He urged all operators and foreign nationals participating in repatriation processes to ensure all documentation and verification procedures are completed before arriving at the port of entry to avoid delays and congestion.
What is Nota Baloyi saying now, here is Cat Matlala saying as he admits corruption charges he will give General Mkhwanazi, Khumalo and Masemola 🤔
Well according to my hearing Cat Matlala will report the police arrested with because he has evidence of payments and conversions they are plotting for this tender 🎙️
[ But we won't know, it will be seen when it is collected ] 🧑 ⚖️
It appears that a turf war between state institutions over Vusi “Cat” Matlala is growing.
The allegations suggest a growing institutional battle over who controls the investigation and the “witness.”
The dispute between the PKTT and IDAC, sources say, appears to extend beyond Matlala himself, raising questions about competing investigative mandates, prosecutorial strategy and institutional authority.
At the heart of these allegations is not only the R360-million SAPS healthcare tender, but an apparent struggle between different law enforcement structures over who directs one of South Africa’s most significant corruption investigations.
The allegations point to what some observers would describe as a classic turf war, with competing agencies allegedly contesting custody, witness management and investigative direction.
If proven, these allegations raise profound questions about cooperation between law enforcement agencies and whether institutional rivalry is undermining the administration of justice.
Key Allegations include:
• IDAC allegedly charged Matlala on the SAPS healthcare tender without properly coordinating with the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), despite him already being in their lawful custody.
• IDAC and PKTT fought over where Matlala should be detained -PKTT wanted him at eBongweni Correctional Centre in Kokstad under strict conditions, while IDAC pushed for Kgosi Mampuru II in Pretoria.
• Detention at Kgosi Mampuru was allegedly used as a bargaining tool -Matlala was reportedly offered more favourable detention conditions in exchange for his cooperation with IDAC.
• Matlala was allegedly promised lenient treatment and better detention conditions if he cooperated with IDAC’s investigation into the R360 million SAPS tender.
• IDAC is accused of trying to pressure Matlala to implicate additional senior figures, including senior politicians, Lieutenant General Dumisani Khumalo, National Commissioner Fannie Masemola, and Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
• Matlala allegedly told SAPS investigators that IDAC wanted him to broaden his statement to implicate more people in exchange for leniency.
• Matlala allegedly offered to provide information about other cops and claimed that some evidence presented to the Madlanga Commission was false or misleading.
• Matlala reportedly requested 24-hour SAPS protection for his wife, assurance of no further charges, and protection for his family in exchange for cooperating with SAPS -these requests were apparently rejected.
• Matlala’s case was separated from his co-accused, and he has remained at Kgosi Mampuru during negotiations, rather than being returned to eBongweni.
• There are claims that Matlala is not just being turned into a legitimate Section 204 witness, but is being used as a strategic instrument in a wider institutional power struggle between state bodies.
If these allegations are true, it raises serious concerns about two important law enforcement agencies being at loggerheads.

eThekwini Metro Police Officer Arrested Over Alleged Job-for-Bribes Scam
An eThekwini Metro Police officer accused of soliciting bribes from applicants seeking jobs in the municipality's police force was arrested after an alleged sting operation last week.
Constable Zwile Ximba appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Friday and was released on bail.
According to sources, Ximba allegedly demanded money from a woman in exchange for securing her a position in the metro police. The woman's family reportedly set a trap, leading to a confrontation that ended with security guards pursuing the officer. He allegedly fled to Metro Police headquarters in Durban CBD, where authorities were later contacted and he was arrested.
Sources further claim that recruitment-related Human Resources documents were found in his possession, raising concerns about a possible wider corruption network linked to metro police recruitment. Allegations have also surfaced that other individuals, including political figures, may be involved, although these claims remain unproven.
The controversy comes amid ongoing concerns over the municipality's metro police recruitment process, which attracted more than 62,000 applicants earlier this year.
Metro Police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu confirmed the arrest, stating that a corruption case has been opened, Ximba has been suspended with immediate effect, and both criminal and internal disciplinary investigations are underway.
Zungu urged anyone who was asked to pay money in exchange for a job to report the matter to the relevant authorities.
BIZZARE FINDINGS: MORE THAN HALF OF MZANSI'S POLICE STATIONS ARE UNREACHABLE TELEPHONIC
The Democratic Alliance's nationwide audit of 1,025 police stations across South Africa found that more than half of them could not be reached telephonic when dealing the 10111 number.
This was revealed by Ian Cameron, National Assembly Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Police.
Cameron said calling a police station’s telephone line is the main way for people to reach the South African Police Service (SAPS) but South Africans have to face the harsh reality of them being unreachable.
The South African government promotes the fact that each police station has its own direct landline numbers.
However, the Democratic Alliance’s audit of police stations across all nine provinces, using officially listed contact numbers, found that this method is unreliable.
A total of 571 stations did not answer, while 454 answered one or both listed numbers. This means that 56% of police stations could not be reached.
Limpopo recorded the lowest reachability rate, with 78 out of 87 police stations failing to answer their phones. Free State recorded the second-lowest rate.
The audit also found that several high-crime priority stations across the country could not be reached.
The findings are consistent with issues identified during the DA’s oversight visit to the 10111 Emergency Communication Centre.
During this oversight visit, officials reported staff shortages, communication challenges, outdated technology and difficulties contacting police stations.
“A police service that cannot consistently be reached by the public cannot effectively fulfil its mandate,” Cameron said.
“The DA will submit the findings of this audit to the Minister of Police and the National Commissioner and call for corrective action to improve public access to police stations.”
Two Men, One Mozambican and One South African, Arrested on N12 After Police Find 150 Rounds of AK-47 Ammunition Hidden in BMW Boot
Members of the South African Police Service Middelburg Flying Squad arrested two male suspects, aged 36 and 39, for unlawful possession of ammunition during a routine patrol on the N12 highway in the Ogies policing area on Thursday, 18 June 2026, after stopping a BMW 1 Series vehicle.
At approximately 20:00, officers conducting crime prevention patrol duties along the N12 stopped a black BMW 1 Series with Gauteng registration plates. The vehicle was occupied by two men, one identified as a South African national and the other as a Mozambican national, who were both subjected to a search by officers on scene.
During the search, members discovered a black plastic bag concealed inside a first-aid kit located in the boot of the vehicle. The bag contained 150 rounds of AK-47 ammunition. The suspects were questioned but failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or produce any documentation authorising possession of the ammunition.
Both suspects were arrested at the scene and charged with unlawful possession of ammunition. Police also confiscated two cellular phones and the recovered ammunition. The suspects are expected to appear in court soon as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the ammunition continue.

NPA Suspends Arrest of General Dumisani Khumalo Over June 30 march Security Fears
The NPA’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC), notes further reports on mainstream media and social media following a media statement issued by IDAC on 18 June 2026.
These further reports are both untrue and speculative.
NPA National Spokesperson Kaizer Kanyago said the IDAC can confirm that warrants of arrest were issued against General Dumisani Khumalo and Major General Nosipho Madondo only and no one else from the SAPS.
"The two individuals were contacted by IDAC investigators to present themselves at the Brooklyn police station on 18 June 2026. Subsequent to the communication with the two officers, the IDAC received information that the affected officers were part of the Justice Crime Prevention and Security cluster team that is assigned to prepare for a national security measure before and on 30 June 2026 in relation to immigration issues.
"In the interest of ensuring synergy and efficiency in the work of that team, IDAC thus decided to suspend the execution of the warrants of arrest until the assignment of the two officers is completed. The two officers were subsequently contacted to no longer hand themselves over prior to their arrival at Brooklyn police station," he said.
Kganygo further said any unrelated information circulated about the arrest of other officers apart from the two is false and should be treated as such.
[MEET A YOUNG ACADEMIC POLICE OFFICER]
Hailing from Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, the 30-year-old Constable (Dr) Lindokuhle Ngcobo is stationed at SAPS Hillbrow and serves in the Crime Prevention Unit, where his responsibilities include monitoring and stabilising crime hotspots, responding to robbery complaints, tracking and apprehending suspects, and participating in intelligence-driven operations.
Constable (Dr) Ngcobo is highly accomplished academically as he holds a PhD in Policy and Development Studies, a Master of Social Science in Public Policy, a Bachelor of Social Science Honours in Public Policy, and a Bachelor of Social Science degree from University of KwaZulu-Natal.
He represents the power of education, hard work, and dedication to community development. He acquired his PhD in 2025 with thesis topic: “Exploring the lived experiences of women with disabilities and policy response towards mitigating challenges faced during the corona virus pandemic alert levels 5-3: A case study of the City of Johannesburg.
Before joining the Family in Blue, Constable (Dr) Ngcobo worked as a Policy Researcher at the Department of Community Safety, demonstrating his long-standing passion for research and policy development. Seeking a greater challenge and a more direct impact on society, he enrolled in the Basic Policing Development Learning Programme (BPDLP) at the 3 SAI Kimberley Academy, where he was fortunate to be part of Project 10 000’s 2022 intake.
His passion for serving communities and contributing towards a safer South Africa inspired him to join the South African Police Service.
Furthermore, Ngcobo’s research interests align closely with the SAPS mandate, as both are grounded in social justice, human rights, community development, and policy transformation. Reflecting on his decision to join SAPS, Dr Ngcobo explained:
“I believed that working within SAPS would expose me to the real-life social challenges faced by vulnerable communities, including inequality, gender-based violence, disability exclusion, youth crime, and barriers to access to justice.”
Recognising a gap in the integration of technology, research, and innovative community engagement strategies within policing, Constable (Dr) Ngcobo believes that young people can make a significant contribution by introducing digital solutions, research-based interventions, and modern communication approaches that enhance service delivery while strengthening relationships between SAPS and the communities.
This youth month, he encourages young people to consider SAPS as an employer of choice because he believes the organisation offers an opportunity to serve the nation with pride, discipline, and integrity while providing career growth, skills development, leadership opportunities, and a platform to make a meaningful difference in society. It is never too late to achieve goals.
Constable (Dr) Ngcobo set himself the challenge of obtaining a doctorate before the age of 30, and through dedication, he achieved it.
31-Year-Old Undocumented Zimbabwean National Arrested After Attempting to Smuggle R900,000 Nissan Patrol V8 Stolen in Gauteng into Zimbabwe via Beitbridge Border Post
A multidisciplinary anti-smuggling operation in Limpopo led to the recovery of a stolen luxury vehicle and the arrest of a 31-year-old Zimbabwean national on Thursday, 18 June 2026. The operation was conducted by members of the Provincial Tracking Team and Provincial Investigation Unit, supported by the Limpopo Tactical Response Team, Tshimollo Security and Investigations, and Tracker Connect.
Police received information during the early hours of Thursday that a vehicle reported stolen in Gauteng was allegedly being transported to the Beitbridge Port of Entry for possible smuggling out of South Africa. Operational teams activated immediately and maintained observation at the intersection of the R101 South and R519 roads in the Westernburg policing area. The suspected vehicle was later spotted, and the driver failed to stop when signalled by law enforcement officials.
A high-speed chase followed, with officers pursuing the vehicle until it was intercepted near the Shell Ultra City in Polokwane. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle, a Nissan Patrol V8 valued at approximately R900,000, had been reported stolen in Fairland, Randburg, Gauteng, on Saturday, 13 June 2026. The driver was arrested at the scene.
Further investigations established that the suspect had no legal documentation to be in the Republic of South Africa. He is expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 19 June 2026, on charges of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle, contravention of the Immigration Act, reckless and negligent driving, and driving without a valid driver’s licence. Police investigations are continuing.

Residents reported hearing four gunshots before finding her. Witnesses said a man in a blue dust coat fled the scene. The victim’s mother said her daughter was on her way to work when attacked, and that an unknown man had visited their home a week earlier asking to speak to her.
The woman’s phone, handbag and belongings were untouched, suggesting robbery was not the motive. Police are investigating and have not confirmed if the earlier visit is linked to the killing.
