Disagree with Advocate Griffiths Madonsela's views or actions if you wish, but reducing a legal practitioner to labels such as "puppet", "stooge" or "junkie" simply because of perceived political associations is not only rude & uncouth, but undermines the respect for the rule of law, African professionals and the independence of the legal profession. I advise you to withdraw.

Advocates are officers of the court. Their professional duty is to provide legal advice and representation to their clients, irrespective of the client's political affiliation or personal popularity. Representing a king, a president, a political party or any other client does not, without evidence, make an advocate complicit in that client's politics.

If there is criticism to be made, let it be directed at legal arguments, conduct or evidence, not at the principle that every person is entitled to competent legal representation.

Once we begin vilifying lawyers merely for acting on behalf of clients, we weaken a foundational pillar of the very constitutional democracy which you and your party are a proponent of.

Politics should be contested vigorously, but the independence and dignity of the legal profession must remain beyond partisan attacks. I submit.
