This new AI thingy is inevitably a new wave of people who will be shouting "animators are done and gone", but can I see a single video that is not a bad direct rip-off of well known ip that this shit is trying to parasite upon?
Frankly speaking we essentially have the exact same discourse that we had in 2023. Back then general preception of non-animator audience was "woah, AI looks scary, but it's not enough, but soon", it is quite the same now too, with exception that AI does progress when it comes to attempts to looks as much as possible as actual anime show.
New videos appear to be normal at first glance but have pretty much same problems as before, doesn't really make any sense, characters on them do strangiest stuff, things happen uncontrollably, therefore, it is going to be irrelevant in any sort of real production, it is only going to complicate things for those, who want to implement it.
The problem with AI (outside of stealing someone else's work in an unregulated process) is that it cannot be directed.
You see, any sort of animator has a remarcable ability of reflecting and changing their work to improve it.
AI however (at least for now), cannot do that, because you need to have a functional brain to reflect on your work, which AI doesn't posses (and not only in said conversation, but in general too, AI cannot improve after finishing a work; there is a great video by Brandon Sanderson on that topic actually); and yes, someone is behind it,
but the thing with AI rn is that people who are going to be using it, aint going to gain animation skills or animator's eye to see those problems while using it, they would not have a skill to get creative in first place too (or any sort of skill needed to make something good - knowlege on filmmaking, animation, etc.) I think that AI anime videos that are circulating over this site rn look nonsense partially because of that too.
And as far as I am concerned most industry animators are hardly against its use, me included.
+ I am still im belief that AI is not going to get creative in forseeable future, because you need a past experience, that actually teaches you - a functional mind how to do anything; but AI is not a mind, it is a machine.
I dont have an answer on when AI will become actually good at animation. it might be in the future, it might stay pretty much the same.
Oh yeah, and for all those who think "AI is a tool", nah, it is "make good" singular button, a fast choice for the weak, but you have no instruments to change the result, you can just correct the prompt and press "make good again". And then it doesnt make anything good. There were inbetween frame generators long before genAI and thank you, we don't need your rip-off machine.
Now is a shocker: greedy companies are trying to get your money, but not to make you better content, but for themselves to enjoy and then make even more money. They were doing that before and animators suffered, and they will be more than glad to use AI to feed you actual slop and animators will suffere even more, but now you aint going to get a good shows out of that. So yall better get ready.
