Fire season started early in Sept and VWS volunteers have been working around the clock across the Western Cape — often doing 12–24hr shifts straight after their full-time jobs.

With peak fire season still ahead, we urgently need funding support.

During the fire in the Cederberg, a VWS crew supported @CapeNature1 by defending accommodation in the Algeria sector, safely moving through heavy smoke. Reminder: avoid fire areas. If unavoidable—slow down, lights on, windows closed.

08 January 2026 @ 11:57 - Overstrand Municipality issued a ‘CODE RED’

Status: The Pearly Beach and Stanford Fires remain out of control. Conditions are changing with rising temperatures and increasing wind.

Overstrand Fire Chief, Lester Smith declared a Code Red.
