plus one to the "game i heavily enjoy got put on the backburner while its devs worked on new big project that ultimately got shot out back to nebulous reasons" counter
@_fod0 https://t.co/Zy49vADAXq
mainly this
i'm aware i'm being generous with my word choice, it's a "tiny bump upwards" based on vibes, that i totally understand would be too little too late for people, and could also just be me reading too much into things
currently playing through ngs's most recent story update, all this post-vael stuff feels... interesting.
there's no big improvement execution-wise (much of it is still tell rather than show), but i do feel like the vibe has subtly shifted for the better
so it wasn't just my imagination, the recent bump in quality in NGS was in part from Sega moving resources (back?) to existing live service games.
to think of what could have been had they not pulled resources away from PSO2 and into the now cancelled supergame.
So, we learned in today's presentation that SEGA's "SUPER GAME" is cancelled.
That's many years of manpower, time, and budget wasted without a product to show.
ON TOP OF THAT, they're moving manpower out of F2P titles (now we know where PSO2NGS staff went)
Yeah...
@Azelyra other than that, imo theres not enough info to say anything conclusive about ngs specifically, esp with the report not naming any not-new f2p/gacha/live service game
that said, sweeping the opportunity cost of that supergame under the rug for investors is still a rancid vibe
@Azelyra there's a single mote of good news on slide 15 stating "existing [F2P] titles performed steadily" and plans to "strengthen operations of existing titles" through the next fiscal year
though admittedly that could also be referring to any live service/gacha game under sega
@Azelyra seconding. baselessly speculating that execs saw the gacha train speed past and made devteams chase it, to the significant detriment of several games (e.g. ngs and frontiers going open world)
also of note imo, sega's usage of "F2P" seems to be inclusive of mobile and gacha games
@MursyidZulfikar belum, tadinya mau upgrade unit sebelum nyoba tapi mager ngefarm/beli augment
akhir akhir login cuma buat mabar sama lanjutin CS ship2
@Fraim57 there's definitely stuff to do, but if you don't gel with ngs's combat feel then it might not be worth
outside of that there's the nicher appeals, creative space is probably the best standout 'new' thing they've done, and chara customization is as good as it's ever been
@Fraim57 customization scene is still alive and well, people are also making cool stuff with the basebuilding, but gameplaywise there hasn't been too much outside of weapons, a handful of areas, and some UQ bosses. they're gearing for a story push this summer but we'll see how that goes
