PAST LIFE OF A SMALL BOY NAMED PRAHLAD
When I was around 20, no way I could understand the psyche behind the person who wants to be more powerful than God. For me being the powerful among humans are quite understandable but even having the thought of overpowering God was so out of syllabus for me.
Then my small brain thought may be after being most powerful on the earth Hiranyakashipu went aimless in life, what to do next so he started finding a bigger target to achieve. My father said, he started hating Shri Hari cause his brother Hiranyaksha was killed by Vishnu in the form of Vraha Avatar. I was like OMG, pura khandan hi Vishnu ke khilaf hai!
When Kashyap Muni was doing some evening (sandhya) prayers, his wife Diti wanted to get intimate with him. Though Kashyap Muni was not interested as it was prohibited to have sex during dusk. That’s the time to do prayers. But Diti overruled Kashyap Muni. When she conceived, there was some prophecy in the air (Akashvani) that some demons were coming in her womb. Hearing this she decided not to give birth of the children and she preserved them for 100 years in her womb. Many parents keep complaining that ‘humnai to kucch kiyai nehi hamarey bacchain aise Q nikle?’ So many minute things you need to understand and follow to be the best or to have the best thing in life.
But it was creating too much powerful energy in her womb and many disturbances which I am not sharing here as the article will go long and boring. Finally Diti gave birth to a twins whose names were Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu. Rishi Kashyap utilised the time of prayers, practicing Dharma in desire and those moments gave birth to some demons who were so against Dharma.
So far the story went quite good still it didn’t answer my question. Hiranyaksh was very powerful, he abducted the earth and concealed it under water. Seeing that Vishnu had to take the form of a Varaha (wild bear) and free the world from the grip of demon Hiranyaksh. There was a huge fight between them but finally Vishnuji slayed the head of Hiranyaksh. So from that day onwards the other twin brother Hiranyakashipu started hating Vishnu and promised to take revenge of his brother’s death.
Story doesn’t end here. He thought of attacking Vishnu many times but it was his Guru Shukracharya who suggested him to be more powerful before attacking. That’s the problem with Venus, unlike Jupiter he will support you on your wrong deeds. His hatred kept on growing when his own son said his father could be the most powerful human on earth but not more powerful than Shri Hari. Initially he loved the courage of his small child and he said ‘That’s my boy’. But as Prahlad maharaj was firm in his belief years after years, Hiranyakashipu had a huge ego clash. Then started the episode of torturing and scaring own child to accept his father as the most powerful. Even Shukracharya failed to shape up small boy Prahlad as per the wish of his father.
Very well thought and intelligently Hiranyakashipu took the boon from Brahma due to which Vishnu had to take that peculiar outlook of half man and half lion with long nails to kill him as the condition of boon was not to be killed with any weapons of the world.
For many many years I was happy with this story. The core flavour of human is to be sympathetic. That;s why we feel happy seeing Hero trapping villain in a movie. So that heroic landing of Narsimha Avatar and saving the poor kid Prahlad was such a satisfying story for me.
BUT, ever since I started learning Astrology, I started digging in past life. Here again I got stuck and this time with Prahlad Maharaj not with Hiranyakashipu. How such a great soul was born in demon’s family?
When the four sons of Brahma visited Vaikunth to meet Vishnu, his guards Jay and Vijay laughed at the appearance of Brahm’s boys and mistakenly they touched them which was very much against the protocol. So 4boys of Brahma cursed those watchmen. Though they cried a lot, asked for forgiveness etc but nothing worked out. Finally Vishnuji came to rescue them. They wanted to be with God and serve Him so Vishnuji gave them a choice. Three births on earth as a nonbeliever of God, as enemy of God or 7 lives on earth as the devotees of God. They have chosen the speedy comeback to Shri Hari and accepted to be the enemy of God for three births on earth and Vishnuji assured them to set free on each birth by Himself.
Hence they got first life as the eldest twins of Diti during Satya yug – Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksha
Second birth was during Treta Yug as Kumbhakarn and Ravan who were killed by Again Vishnu avatar Shri Ram.
Finally in Dwapar Yug as Shishupal and Dantavakra who were set free by God Himself Shri Krishna.
In other words, they were not at all ordinary souls, else God would not come to set them free.
This time my father couldn’t help me, I had to find it by myself. He was like now you grew up and do your own research, don’t ask me for spoon feeding. Padma Puran was a gem in this case and there was the story of Prahlad Maharaj’s past life. His name was Soma Sharma in past life who was very much disinterested in marriage and material life. So he kept on doing bhakti towards god, meditation etc. He left home after the basic education and devoted all his time towards practicing bhakti, reading and studying more on Dharma in a village named Shalagram. Little far from his abode, there used to be a group of demonic people always drinking fighting and making huge chaos. That sort of Tamasik activity and noise used to disturb him a lot still he kept on ignoring and living his life.
When his final time came, he set for Samadhi to focus on Shrihari. Suddenly those demonic people started making noise, screaming, dancing and what not. They sound was so chaotic that Shomasharma got scared and all his attention got diverted to those demonic people and their chaotic sound, he got damn scared when his soul was parting from his body.
अन्तकाले च मामेव स्मरन्मुक्त्वा कलेवरम् |
य: प्रयाति स मद्भावं याति नास्त्यत्र संशय: ||
Those who think doing lots of good #Karma like helping people, giving good advice, making school, collage, hospital for people will take them to Moksha or to God then wakeup still you have time in hand to rethink and shape up life from here.
Such good deeds can take you to the palace of a king, or make you most powerful or richest or most beautiful, most knowledge etc but seeking God needs the blessings of God or blessings of God’s devotee. Good Karma and Bad karma are for this world; devotion and sadhana was for spiritual realm. If you do good Karma you can even reach to Indralok or Swarg but Bhagavat Prapti can never happen. There is no second formula or way out in this.
Somasharman devoted his entire life towards God still he slipped at the end moment now you know where we all are going to end up.
Let’s get back to the story……That very Somasharman took birth as a son of Hiranyakashipu and Kayadhu cause his mind went to those demonic people making noise while leaving soul in past birth so he got this demonic family. But he learnt entire Bhagavat from Sage Narad when he was in his mother’s womb. His mother Kayadhu forgot all with the time but Prahlad Maharaj didn’t forget any teachings of sage Narad. Cause his soul had the back up of Sadhana and Bhakti. Rest of the story we all know what happened to the child Prahlad and how brave he was all the time putting all his trust on Shri Hari.
Surrender to Shri Hari he will save you, most importantly he will guide you towards Him births after births.
Please celebrate Narsimha Chaturdashi, this is the celebration of a small kid’s firm belief on God, trust on his teachings from sage Narad. Try to elevate yourself in each birth.
