Glad to see Thiru Annamalai avl @annamalai_k reiterate his commitment to nationalism. That, I believe, is the only way politics should be done.
But I am uneasy with two lines from his speech:
"Show me a nationalist greater than me."
"No one needs to give me lessons on nationalism."
Because Tamil Nadu has already shown us its greatest nationalists. They paid with their lives:
Auditor V. Ramesh ji, Salem (2013)
Dr V. Arvind Reddy ji, Vellore (2012)
S. Vellaiyappan ji, Vellore (2013)
K. Murugan ji, Paramakudi (2013)
Rajagopalan ji, Madurai (1994)
Palkara Suresh Kumar ji, Madurai (2013)
K.P. Suresh Kumar ji, Ambattur (2014)
C. Sasikumar ji, Coimbatore (2016) among many others .
And behind them stand lakhs of ordinary RSS and BJP karyakartas.
They earn nothing. They expect nothing.
They give up their youth, their weekends, their time with family.
They put up the flags, fill the chairs, guard the booths, and go home unseen.
No posts. No recognition. No pecuniary gain.
Just an unshakeable love for Bharat Mata.
That is nationalism.
Every one of them gives us a lesson in nationalism, every single day. It is far more than most of us, and many leaders, can ever claim.
I will never call myself a bigger nationalist than these balidanis or these karyakartas. None of us should.
Nationalism is not a title we award ourselves. It is a debt we owe to them. 🇮🇳
One would expect an address by the PM at a World Summit to talk about India’s place in the world, the government’s foreign and economic policies, broader vision for region and the world amid ongoing tumults and wars . But when the speech is reduced to simply opposition, youth, citizens and critics bashing political rhetoric with no world view offered, the comments section on such remarks starts to tell a story.
Kudos @PiyushGoyal Sir for highlighting the unfairness in climate change discussions.
As covered in Ch 14 titled “The Unfair Climate Divide” in India@100, global discussions such as in @IMFNews@WorldBankGroup rarely use five facts, obviously for their convenience:
1. Cumulative emissions: Europe and US contribution is HUGE
2. Per-capita measures for current emissions: bcos again here they are an order of magnitude higher
3. Even the current emissions by EMEs are for consumption by US and Europe
4. While the climate sins were committed by advanced nations, most of the adverse outcomes are being faced by the Global South.
5. On fair support thru tech transfer and financing for climate change mitigation and adaptation, both of which are absolutely essential, all Europe and US do is talk, talk and more talk, but no walk.
On all board discussions on climate at @IMFNews, the India office under my leadership had highlighted these with relevant empirical evidence.

The Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC) has cancelled its annual Diwali Mela this year in protest against the relentless attacks and detention of journalists amid the ongoing agitation in the capital.
Her advisors too are cut from the same stone.
She had a competent CEA - @SubramanianKri
High time he is brought to FinMin.. yes replace Nirmala Sitaraman with him.
Nirmala S is an astoundingly midwitted woman with zero adminstrative experience and little academic qualification and has no business being anywhere near the FinMin of a $4T ecobony. The period that she took over was the most crucial period for guiding the GST system in a particular direction. She has made mincemeat of it because her small mind can't think beyond what is the correct rate for caramel popcorn.
Modi, you bloody semi-literate joker, at least now fire her and get someone who is a little bit competent.
Supreme Court has many many many cases of importance. Dont go up knocking for dass and the other ass.
Let them focus on providing justice to many who've been languishing in prisons.
Instead of cracking down on students and activists, the police should focus on actual criminals.
This is what happens when the Govt and police have their priorities completely misplaced.
Visiting a worksite in 1960s, Friedman was shocked to see workers had shovels & not modern tractors. When asked why the bureaucrat explained - This is a jobs program to which Friedman replied - I thght u r trying to build a canal. If its jobs, give workers spoons, not shovels.
China took the hard route of improving the quality of its human capital by investing big in primary health and education.
Given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of a massive expansion in the revenue base, Sonia Gandhi and her lackeys like Dreze firttered it all away in an unproductive "dig a hole, fill it up, get paid for it" scheme. That's because Dreze and his ilk don't want to remove poverty, he wants to fetisize it.
Imagine the long term impact if only the NREGA and FSB funds were allocated for the tough but necessary task of efucation and healthcare investments?
Whatever the poor gained from NREGA, they are losing way more because of the absence of even a half-decent public healthcare and education. Fiscal policy is all about making the right choices.
This is illegal & a shame. Please apprach Supreme Court tomorrow against this. Even if nothing is gained it must be recorded for posterity. Sabh yaad rakha jayega @abhijeet_dipke
ASTONISHING: CJP’s Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das still in judicial custody for trespass and violation of prohibitory orders while waving the tricolour at Jantar Mantar (not an act of violence by any reckoning), and Hindu Raksha Dal members who were caught on camera beating protestors out on bail (an act of brazen goondaism). Yeh hai kanoon??😡
Abhijeet, Ashu & Saurav will go down as the first Indians after 1947 to be jailed for unfurling the national flag 🇮🇳
Our youth has shown remarkable courage in the face of a govt that has only contempt for it. By doing so, the country has been awakened.
Why should Supreme Court work on a Sunday for "some" people? Why are they so entitled?
What about million other cases that haven't been looked into even once, instead years!!
Our classical music was pluralistic & syncretic long before Guha discovered the vocabulary of woke politics.
The real tragedy is not Hindutva embracing our heritage, but self-appointed guardians of pluralism pretending that Hindu civilization and its music are somehow separable.

Our classical music is the greatest achievement of Indian civilisation, and it would be tragic if its inherently pluralist and syncretic character falls prey to the polarising poison of Hindutva. My column in @ttindia :

John Dreeze - the more people come out to support him, the more I think of how Theresa was doing all her work, and the support she recvd.
Dreeze's work is suspect!
Thousands have been arbitrarily arrested by Modi’s BJP government for protesting the removal of more than 130 million people from India’s electoral rolls.
This could become one of the largest acts of mass disenfranchisement in history.
Solidarity with everyone fighting fascism in India, and with everyone who came out in London to stand with Jantar Mantar 2.0 and the Cockroach Janta Party ✊🏽🇮🇳
🚨 IMPORTANT
We have consulted Mr. Kapil Sibal. If Ashu and Saurav are not released by tomorrow, we will pursue legal action against all those who deliberately ensured that they continue to be in illegal custody especially when they have not committed nor charged with any offence.
The deliberate use of delaying tactics to keep them behind bars cannot go unchallenged. Those responsible will be held accountable.
