Listening to neurotypical people’s advice is as useful for adhders as kicking your hamster to a wall as hard as you can.
"UsE a pLaNnEr BrO" "JuSt bUiLd A mOrNiNg RoUtiNe"
shut up
You being an adhd founder, prolly know how shameful it is to be this "💃🏽successful entrepreneur🕺🏽" on the outside while your personal life is just in the trash laying there
yes you make all this money and businesses and whatnot but you can't unload the dishwasher or text your mom back
You probably already figured out that the problem is your brain, but don't exactly know how
basically, your brain cares about interesting stuff, not importance, startups are chaotic and high stakes, your brain likes that, making your bed or cleaning your apartment is not
In Backbone Hierarchy I built a maintenance mode that shows only the absolute bare minimum to keep your life rotating, and it rewards you from doing it
I know its really funny but you need to stop kicking hamsters to walls, use systems that support your brain
ADHD is a real disability. I know it, even when no one around me seems to. When I say I can’t do something, I don’t need tips, encouragement, or you’ve got this energy. I just need you to believe me. I need one person to trust that I’m not lying or being dramatic, my brain literally can’t handle it right now because of this developmental disability. No more just push through, try harder, or I did it so you can too. Those words hurt. Please believe me for once. That’s all I’m asking.
They do this cuz translating the chaotic high stakes reality of building a startup to people on predicable life paths is just too exhausting
plus the overwhelming majority of high achievers have imposter syndrome so celebrating feels like a trap
A challenge I see many high performing people face on the way up?
They minimize what they are doing, working on, or how well they are doing with friends & family.
Instead of being excited in what they've accomplished...they reduce it.
A very hard place to navigate.
AI removed the friction that gave your brain a sense of completion
When it took a week your brain registered effort and rewarded you
Adhd + depression actively ignores positive performance and focuses on what we didn't do
Store your performance outside your brain
I built a timeline in my app that registers everything you did on the day by areas/projects
(+ habits, activities, and other stuff but yesterday I skipped all of my habits and other areas)
@Gabbrielxzn This loop costed me so many projects and years
Turns out our brains care about interesting stuff, not important stuff
Separate planning from doing somewhere outside your brain for your business
@delonperc I dont mask, I dont care enough to do it
masking requieres constant self monitoring which drains working memory and exhausts our frontal lobes
when you drop the mask your performance increases
1: separate planning from doing outside of your brain
2: Plan for when you have high and low energy
3: Lower your activation energy by doing the 2 minutes micro steps that a task requires
4: Work with someone else in person or in camera, doesn't have to be related to what you do
thats the 20% effort that gives 80% of the results
Met a Silicon Valley guy at a local entrepreneur event,
I got overstimulated and my brain locked away my social skills
I panicked when he asked what I worked in
Saying just marketing felt (quoting my brain) “too basic for my level” so I overcompensated with try-hard jargon
Lost a really valuable connection
Key takeaway: don’t be adhd
