The bond market is screaming at us to stop the deficit spending
For almost two decades, America enjoyed a moat that very few countries in the world can afford, which was cheap cost of capital
We should have taken these dollars and built out infrastructure like never before. Bridges, tunnels, roads, factories and everything in between
Instead, we funded social services for boomers who already had too much, pushed on ESG and wokeness to folks who had too little, and awarded massive foreign aid to organizations who never deserved it
Probably one of the worst allocations of capital in history on a national scale. History will not look back kindly at us
From the Banff subreddit. "We have an assimilation problem" in one image. Graffitiing rocks in a national park is so blasphemous to the Canadian character that it's very clear these men don't have the slightest idea about what it is to be Canadian.
Stephen Harper: "In 2015, Canada was poised to become that energy superpower. Today, we are not. Why? Because of deliberate policy choices that followed over the next decade. But there is no point bemoaning what is past, especially because the opportunity of becoming that global energy superpower is fortuitously offering itself to us once again."
Danielle Smith was once called an extremist for relentlessly making this exact argument during the Trudeau years.
It would appear she has won the debate…
@SteveSaretsky A country that is as physically large as ours with so many government funded programs and only 40ish million population to pay for the programs cannot fund them without natural resources.
Calgary. 😳 Of the 16 people that Calgary police have charged in extortion incidents against the city's South Asian community, only one remains in custody; the rest have been released on bail.
None of the accused are Canadian citizens. Supt. Jeff Bell says the suspects are largely in the country on a mix of student or work visas. Together, they face a total of 56 charges. https://t.co/MWfIjUA7LT
I'm not sure if there is a country that hates its young people, its next generation, more than Canada.
We have politicians handing out property tax rebates to seniors who own homes, and proposals to earn the first $35,000 tax free just for these who are 65+.
Meanwhile young people are being replaced by foreign workers, record housing unaffordability, and these who can leave Canada.
Once again, Trump is mad that the Fed is fighting inflation while voters are screaming at him to roll back inflation, and threatening to raise the cost of living with tariffs while voters are screaming at him to lower the cost of living. An all-time failure at reading the room. What good is populism that tunes out the vox populi?
Imagine the outrage if this was imported dairy displacing Quebec dairy. But don't worry - every federal party has sworn to protect supply management. Sheesh
I think it’s unacceptable that Canada’s paper of record is publishing views calling the Premiers of SK and AB “traitors” for defending their economies. Did anyone call the ON premier a traitor for not accepting tariffs on the auto sector? Or the Maritime premiers for not accepting restrictions on seafood trade in retaliatory tariffs?
We are constantly told that what is good for the East is good for Canada, but what is good for the West is only good for the West.
Pay more or enhance productivity.
The answer is not always to just bring in more low-skilled workers
Company won’t make it paying a wage that attracts labour? Tough luck. No one is guaranteed a profit.
Figure it out or fold
