As we start 16 days of activism with eliminating violence against women and girls with a town hall meeting, it’s important to note that FGM is highly contributing to the increased violence against us. Let’s take the bold step to end the practice.
Today is Zero Tolerance Day against FGM/C. This day is Internationally recognized and states have signed those documents protecting the rights of women and girls, yet FGM/C is done in the eyes of those who have the responsibility to protect those rights.
It’s disheartening that we continue to loose our girls to FGM in Kambia and Port Loko Districts in Northeastern Sierra Leone in just a week this year between the 9th - 11th January, 2024. We urged government to do something to stop the ugly act.
We can not continue to live a life where our women and girls continue to die from FGM. In Kambia District, north west Sierra Leone, 13 and 17 year old girls have dead from bondo initiation in the Tonko Limba Chiefdom. We need no more committed from government but action.
@RaisingVoices The issue of violence against children must be a fight for all. They must be protected with a platform to be heard. We join you in creating an enabling environment for the all.
